New Car: BMW E46 330Ci

My last car went into a ditch due to snow, I've learnt my lesson and don't plan on doing it in the 330 :p

Haven't had a wet day since buying it, but I have to say the car feels extremely composed and hasn't tried to kill me yet, the DSC has stayed on and the tyres aren't ditch finders so that's probably got a lot to do with it. Dad has made noises about taking me on a skid-pan course to learn how to control any slide that could arise however, so will most likely take him up on that.
 
With proper tyres they stick very well. It's extremely unlikely you'll ever find the back trying to overtake you tbh especially in an auto - nevertheless extra training can't hurt. I've never done a (legal) skidpan but quite fancy it.
 
You'll be lucky to get the back out tbh, even when it's soaking wet the DSC will sort anything out you can throw at it.

Slap it in 2nd, go round a roundabout with a neutral throttle, let off then back on and the back will step out, it'll go about 12" before DSC tells you to stop being a knob and sorts it for you :) what width tyres are on it? I find my 255's aren't easy to get out

Just turn the DSC off. Had no end of tail-out action in my 330d.

What you can't really do is hold on to the slide for very long, as there is only one wheel spinning up!
 
Can't remember the width of the tyres, will take a look tomorrow.

Updated the nav today to v32, managed to get it stuck in German and even selecting GB language has no effect. Think I'll have to try again tomorrow xD

Did you get one of the modded discs? Mine seems to love being stuck in French as it's had some speed camera hack applied to it. Not a huge deal but it gets annoying after a while :p
 
Seriously nice looking example. There are far too many ropey e46s around these days. Strangely enough I've seen far fewer rotten e36s recently, perhaps they've all been written off or rusted away.

Yeah was one of the only copies I could find, it could do either french or German so went with French as I can read a little more of that that German :p

Found another disc today though and have now got it all fully updated and in English, including the perspective view which is rather good and was useful on a journey today :) new maps are needed now.

Still having bluetooth issues, going to accept that it's just not compatible :(
 
What issues are you having with the BT? As fox says you most likely have an old UTF module if you can't pair it? My iPhone works with it however the number doesn't pop up when reciveving a call which can be annoying!

As for the cup holders, it's easy to swap out the phone cradle and put in the cup holders. It is only 20 quid or so from BMW. You only need to BT switch when you pair a new phone, so just keep the cradle at home for the future and enjoy driving with a beverage!

I had loads of bluetooth problems with my 330 and the Galaxy Nexus I previously had. Not sure if it's the same as yours but I found running Android 4.2.x killed my BT functionality. It would connect and disconnect every few seconds so I couldn't use it at all. I ended up having to go back to 4.1.x for it to work.

Seems to be a problem with 4.2, they rewrote the BT stack from what I've read which broke a LOT of things.

I'm dreading the update to 4.2 on my HTC One :(

Blinkz, Atari & Fox - The phone will pair fine, and then initially connect so my name will appear on the nav screen and I get to two arrows either side of the BT logo on my phone. This lasts about 5 seconds and then the connection is lost, no contacts are synced and if I receive any calls they just go to the phone. Phone is on 4.2.2 so that could explain it! Looks like I'll have to replace the UTF module as Fox says unless there happens to be any way to sort out the BT on the phone with a custom ROM.

Had one when I was 18, trust me, you can't crash it unless you are honestly juts breaking the laws of physics. And even then, you really have to be doing something epically daft.

Nonsense. You can crash any car through inexperience or too much speed or whatever without neccesarily doing something 'epically daft'. Provided you respect both your own limits and the car you'll be fine but it's really misleading to claim unless you are doing something 'epically daft' you can't crash a car.
