Hello oh knowledgeable people :)

My friend is wanting to finally upgrade his system as its taking a few days to render movies! obviously during this time he can't use the PC so has decided to let me loose and give him a great build to satisfy his needs!

So...

■ Used for Video rendering.
■ Used for high performance gaming (nothing too current but I can assume he will when he has this PC. :))
■ Budget of < £1000 but I'm looking at about £850 to give leeway for choice.
■ Doesn't need Windows/Monitor/Peripherals at the moment. Just the box!
■ No preference on Nvidia/AMD for graphics, CPU prefer to keep to Intel at the moment though.

Thank in advance for your help and if I have missed anything I shall will update accordingly.

Thanks

Sorry I can't help you spec but the budget and uses lend itself to either a 4670k + 7950 Setup, or if you can grab a cheaper 2700k/3770k, the hypertheading may help in video editing. :)

Do you think the i5 will be powerful enough? from my lack of knowledge the i7 has more threads (and slighty faster)? obviously that would take me over the budget but looks good.

keep the suggestions coming!

Thanks.

For rendering a i7 will help, you do get Quicksync support with these chips that may help, but I find it only works best with MP4 conversions.

He won't be overclocking too much as he is a complete PC noob really so won't need a great cooler and the motherboard below comes with a free one?. He just knows how to use it and edit/play :)

So far from the recommendations above this is my list. bang on £1000 mark. any adjustments/tweaks that can be made to improve/reduce cost?

Will he be wanting to add a 2nd graphics card in the future? If so need a different motherboard and a 750w PSU(not sure if the 650w will be enough, stulid will prob be able to enlighten us).

thanks for the info Stulid. I'll have a chat with my mate and see how he wants to go :)

fowler002 - probably not. I think it will be a buy now and use it till it dies/tooslow scenario.

Will he be looking at another gpu later on?

Otherwise you could look at the board below and drop the PSU down.

Motherboard comes with a free cooler:
