Look at it this way, with the heat reached by Haswell CPUs, one can have hot water on "tap" without going near a kettle. That is a massive power saving if you ask me.

Tea + overclock all in one. Intel are actually geniuses.

Rip out the boiler, just attach a water supply to the CPU block and out the other side to the hot water tank. :)

In reality, the actual heat energy produced by Haswell will of course be lower, even if the temperatures are higher due to inefficient thermal transfer. If you really want to heat water, quad SLI GTX 480's would do the trick nicely. :)
 
I just live chatted to an Intel employee, I asked them why they used crappy TIM and he just gave a generic 'Engineers tested it and it does the job' answer. I did suggest that they use better TIM on K series chips in the future, as people buying these have overclocking in mind, and don't expect 100C temps at only 4.5 GHz. Not sure if he'll pass on the suggestion, but at least I tried. :)

To be honest do u think Intel really care about K version for highly overclocking and use a better TIM too in future. What a load of crap talk. They won't bring in a good quality TIM because the K version is just unlocked to push the price premium high. Intel are crafty and remember Intel always say Haswell stock speed is fine and refuse to comment anything of more than stock speed or more vcore or heat problem.

Wasn't there a leak online of a 4770k at 5.0Ghz @ 0.9v? Was that faked or supremely cherry picked

Considering the voltage they drop to at idle, that's probably possible if you have something more extreme than air cooling. That leak never showed temps or cooling iirc.

Pretty sure it was fake, there wasn't any way of knowing that was under load anyway, there is a small chance that it could have been stable at 5GHz in safe mode at idle, but I can say almost certainly that you could not run P95 at 5GHz with 0.9V with a 4770k.

Unfortunately that is likely the case, but we can only hope AMD really pulls something out of the bag which forces Intel to give better performance for the money. They haven't really had the competition, so they've made small performance gains with each generation after Sandybridge. I'm planning on upgrading to Skylake, so hopefully by then we'll see some proper competition between the two.
