My new work uses office 365 for emails. I've got a work W8 laptop and might get a WP8 mobile, but it doesn't look like you can use an Office 365 account as a Microsoft Account to log into W8/WP8 or their apps. I certainly can't log into any of the Metro apps on my laptop using it. Its a shame, I quite like the idea of using my work account on all my work devices.

Does anyone else have this setup? How do you manage it? I think I'm going to have to create a Microsoft Account to sign into things, but then add my corporate account too and use it as a second account? Can I create a Microsoft account using my Office 365 email address? Or is that going to confuse things if they are effectively different services?

I think you can actually create a new MS account with your work email. It's almost like a shadow account but it's 100% under your control even though it's using your corporate domain name.

I only have limited experience with it because it's new to me too. You're best off talking to your works' IT folks because their policy might be totally different.

I think the Metro apps on my laptop are just going to remain unused. I don't think they can be setup with a 365 account and I don't want to link any personal accounts to it.

I'm assuming WP8 will be like Android in that you need to use a Microsoft account, but then add in others later.

I think I will just create an MS account with a professional looking name and then just use that to connect, and then add my corporate account in additionally.

Its a bit annoying that you can't use you 365 account as an MS account, you can use Google Apps accounts as a 'normal' Google account, can't you?

**** me......

Hand in your resignation immediately.... sounds like a job from hell

?

You still need a MS account to start from, and then add a 365 account as well.

I fear creating an MS account using my 365 email address will confuse things. I will create a 'dummy' account instead.

Because there is an overlap in services, like SkyDrive, etc. How would I know if I was logged into my 365 account or my MS account?

Plus, if I leave, I'd loose the account (assuming my email account get closed, preventing me being able to change passwords, etc.).

Interesting point on skydive, think that would be the only sis sue, why not ask on the 365 or Microsoft forum.

Office 365 accounts aren't part of Live ID which is why you can't just sign in, without registering it on live ID.

The Microsoft site is full of people complaining about not being able to use 365 accounts to sign into Windows. I see their point, it means I have got an AD account, a 365 account, and also a 'personal' account on my laptop now. But I can see why they are also separate.

Do you ready have an AD account? If so you should be logging on to the domain with this.

I do. The point is the Metro apps on Windows 8 and the whole phone on Windows Phone 8 must be signed into a Microsoft account. An AD account or a 365 account won't work.

You have to link an MS account with your AD account, and then you can add the 365 account as a second account for the Mail, People, Calendar etc apps.
