6970 to 7970 Worth it

The 8000 series is now going to be with us by the release on BF4 so not long to wait, at the same time your 6970 must really be struggling. Saying that there isnt many titles comming out before the next set of games hit us in Oct/Nov this year.

I recently just upgraded to CF7970, as its the fastest solution there is by some way currently for under £600, option maybe? Then you wouldnt have to worry much about the 8000 series.

Its like 30% faster for a regular 7970, 40-45%% with a Ghz Edition and when overclocked further (which pretty much anyone with a 7800 or 7900 card do) the gap widens even more. Would you want this for the price?

If you were to go with a current gen card, you'd be better off going with a 7950 as it is only about 5% slower clock for clock, but significantly less than a 7970. Otherwise, if your 6970 giving good performance still, you may as well hold out for the next gen.

Hi OP,

I'm still rocking the 6970 & its doing its job, its even running Grid 2 in eyefinity at an ok level of detail (high ish) & it feels fast & smooth. In my view there is nothing out of much worth bewteen now and oct / nov, so whilst its always nice to get new things hold out if you can, thats my plan.

Cheers guys while the 6970 is doing fine i will wait for the 8000 series as i would like a better performance upgrade and i cant justifi Nvidia prices at the moment

People don't realize I think that we are going to be stuck in a cycle again where the games are going to be console ports/engines limited because the games have to work on consoles.

So all this power isn't going to be needed apart from a few niche titles which will only need it if you want to run maximum details anti aliasing etc at high res.

I'd hang on to the 6970 or even buy another 6970 if you see one on the cheap and have the power supply to use it.

Xfire 6970 is slightly faster than a 7970.

Hold on to your 6970 till the 8 series.

If rumours are true about it. It should destroy the Titan.

I am still rocking my 2 6970's CF but if the upgrade itch is too much and you want to get rid of you 6970 drop me a pm ;-)

Hope you guys don't mind me asking but what would a fair price be to sell a 6970?
I have two in Xfire and was just reading up on the GTX780 now that looks a nice card and I would gather run better than what I have???

Is it worth upgrading from my 6970 to a 7970 or wait for 8000 series ?
You should see about 50-70% more, even close to 100% in certain games (compared to a 7970 GHz ed). As time goes by and DX11 is the new dx9, probably more often than not 7970 will sit closer to 100%.

Yeah when I read it I was like "huh?!" lol.

But it does work like that were already seeing the usual pattern of NO PC VERSION on good games.

Games are built for console then made for pc not the other way round how can you deny this when so many games on pc have that console FOV ?

People still buy physical copies? :D
Digital is where it's at for PC games, and PC gaming is bigger than ever tbh. Cheap parts, loads of games and games that come with controller support very easy for couch gamers.

Why do people keep referring to the 8000 series? I thought that was just a rebrand of the 7000's for OEM's and mobile gpu's and the 9000 was the next line of desktop cards?
