Hi Everyone,

Brand new to the forum, so hello!

I'm about to attempt my first gaming PC build. I'm sure you have thousands of threads on here about this topic, but I was just looking for somebody with more experience than me to take a look at the build and give me some advice. For example if I need to spend more somewhere and similarly if I can save some money somewhere?

I've built and repaired a few PCs, but this is the first time I've been sourcing the parts, prior to this the components have been in front of me and I've just had to whack them in a case!

Basically I just want to check that I'm on the right track with the things I've selected.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Welcome Bud.

You are on thre right lines, so thats a good start..

I assume you don't need this PC now, as The new Intel Processors are out in a few days (so not too long). they are the new Haswell chips (if you've heard of them)

A good start, are you going to overclock this atall? If so i'd suggest getting the 'K' Chip. (will be 4570K), this has an unlocked multiplier making it amazingly easy to Overclock).

What Max budget do you have?

Do you need a monitor or OS?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me!

I wasn't in any rush, just been really getting into PC gaming recently over my Xbox. Previously gamed with PC before, but now I'm doing so to the extent where my laptop really doesn't cut the biscuit.

I'd heard Haswell was coming out, didn't realise it was that soon though lol!

I wasn't planning on overclocking it, purely as I've had no experience at it at all. Something I'll definitely consider looking in to.

In terms of a monitor and OS, no I'm fine for that.

My budget was to ideally keep the price under £800(ish), so I won't be going too far over that. In terms of the build I have there, would that be okay without any modifications to it? I just want to check to make sure that I am looking at the right stuff lol! Obviously this isn't the "final draft" I'll wait until Haswell chips hit the shelves I think!

Anytime,

Well, i would tweak it a bit:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 WindForce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £169.99
1 x XFX 750W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply £83.99
1 x BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Windowed Case - Black £59.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £49.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £49.99
1 x OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99
Total : £445.04 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Then add a Haswell motherboard and CPU (z87 motherboard and 4570k)..

I'll tell you why.

The case i've specced is a bit better looking IMO and has more features.

The PSU i specced is made by Seasonic (the PSU Grandaddy) Also has enough power for Xfire/SLI

The RAM will be exactly the same, just mine is cheaper. The HyperX is also very good. :)

Green HDD's aren't the best. Seagate are a good maker, and this on is well priced.

This 660 is £10 cheaper and also has a very good cooler on it. :)

Wow thanks for that! I agree about the case by the way, I didn't really know what to look for to be honest!

As for the Haswell processor, do you think I should still go for an i5? Have you got any recommendations in terms of motherboard?

No worries.. :)

I think so, should be a similar price and a bit extra performance. Intel prices don't drop much.

Not sure on motherboards as they are new too and no offical reviews are allowed until the NDA is over. :) Though normally, Asus and Gigabyte make great boards.

That spec looks a mess.

Z87 board with a multiplier looked chip.

OTT PSU with a slow GFX card.

One more thing! Will the components come with all of the cables necessary to properly put it all together? If it doesn't I'd rather get them on the same delivery, saves wasting money on extra postage :)
