On-the-spot fines for middle laners and tail-gaters

it's those people who sit in the middle doing pretty much the same speed as traffic in that left lane.... just speed up a bit and pull in front or slow down and pull back in!!! is it really that hard to do?!?!?! :p apparently...yes.....yes it is xD

same applies to the slow overtakers, they overtake (usually cutting out infront of faster moving traffic causing a string then almost cut the car up in the middle lane and then usually slow down.... which just means the dude he/she overtook is just going to jostle for position again if they don;t want to travel at their speed.

damn I don't half go on sometimes xD

I think both of those scenarios are down to people wanting to stick close to the speed limit. Essentially they are doing 70-75mph and overtaking cars going slightly slower. They don't want to floor it up to 90 in an overtaking maneuver because they consider it to be wrong, even if it would clear the outer lanes quicker.

As the middle lane hoggers issue in general, one of the causes as I see it is because people wanting to drive at the speed limit get frustrated having to keep ducking in and out of the inside lane where invariably they will come across slower traffic. In some cases they then can't get back out again because there is a stream of middle-lane traffic passing them who don't pull out into the outside lane to let them across (and if they do, they get flashed by the people wanting to do 90+ in the outside lane).

Gonna be interesting to see how long it is before someone claims they were 'unjustly' busted for middle-lane hogging e.g. coming up to a junction and wanting to give room for merging traffic.

Interesting reading the full details on the .gov.uk site, that what the BBC and other media aren't reporting is that all fixed penalties will be going up.

£30 -> £50
£60 -> £100
£120 -> £200
£200 -> £300

BBC make it sound like its only certain offences.

Make it stop, andi.

Motorway based Police will not go out hunting for these offences. What it will do however is give them the power to sort it out more effectively when someone is taking the absolute urine.

Not indicating can be an offence, when did you last see someone get pulled for it?

As for merge in turn...don't get me started on that. Locally it's Filter in Turn and is exactly the same principle, amount of bloody hire cars and UK reg vehicles who totally fail at it does my head in! Idiots sitting on the bumper of the car in-front in their lane and blocking the other lane who should be merging in.

I have never seen anyone being pulled over by the police on the motorway.

Yes I hate middle lane hogs but pulling people over might be slightly dangerous. Is it really worth it.

You sound like fun in a bun :)

Thanks. Not sure what you're getting at :o

Why are you sat/pulling out in front of cars doing 90-odd for long enough for them to flash their lights? :/

I don't flash mine unless you're driving like a retard, i.e. in an overtaking lane but not overtaking or pulling out in front of me when I'm hauling ass and you're driving like my nan.

I don't sit in lane 3. I drive as you should (keeping to the left), but I'm saying that there's so many middle lane hogs or HGVs to pass that I have to venture in to lane 3 to pass more often than should be necessary. I don't pull out in front of them.

Tbh I'd rather the fuel economy than getting to work 8 mins earlier, hence the cruise control. I get flashed quite rarely, but it's amusing how little time you need to be in lane 3 before you get someone trying to push you up the road. What grinds my gears is some chav flashing when there's nowhere to go because the road ahead is congested.

They should also Ban lorrys from over taking on a dual carriageway, They are all supposed to do 56mph anyway so what's with the 8 mile over taking that ***** the road up for everybody else ?

Can't see any of it making any difference if the mobile phone law is anything to go by, Every time I'm out I see Untold drivers on mobiles, not only on calls either as I see plenty rolling up to the lights slowly with head down whilst they send/read there latest text message.

They should also Ban the Parent run, All kids have to go to the school in there allocation area so why the **** are all these people driving there kids to school ?
Every time the schools are off the roads are clear, It's not rush hour traffic that ***** our roads up it's Lazy parents doing the school run.

In fact while I'm at it Lets Ban everybody except Me. :p

I am in agreement with the first part.

Unless they are passing a broken down vehicle or a restricted agricultural vehicle there should be a total ban on commercial HGVs using the outside lane.

It wouldn't be so bad if they acted with any consideration to other road users, but they don't, they just simply swing out into overtaking traffic regardless so they can sit there for a couple of hours over taking the vehicle in front.
The A1 in particular is a disaster zone because of them.
