So last night, my new build started cutting out. This morning it wouldn't power on... uh oh. After cycling the power for about 10 minutes, I saw a screen saying the bios was corrupted. Asking me if I'd like to restore it from the backup. I did. Half way through that, after being warned not to power down, the power went.
I switched it back on and was greeted with no screen output. It powered down. At this point I decided enough was enough. I want and drank some tea.
I tried with a different PSU, and although I got no display, I got power. Fans ran and I could see from the LED readout that the board was trying to boot. Hmmm... Progress.
I plugged the new PSU (Seasonic Platinum 760W) and again, it kept cutting out. OId PSU - fine. A ha! faulty PSU... So RMA here we come. As I was dissembling the Seasonic I noticed that the motherboard cable was, although attached and firmly so, was not "clipped" in. Hmmm, perhaps not! It took a right squeeze to get the bugger to click-in. But it did.
So back to the Z87X-UD5H. I cleared the CMOS. Plugged the Seasonic back in and I got some display... nice. Would I like to restore the bios? Too right.
Anyway. That was the root of it. A very stiff modular cable clip. So stiff it I don't think I'll be able to remove it, or easily be able to re-attach it, without removing the the PSU.
The board miraculously survived its trauma. Overclockers RMA and sales were great. They had a new board ready to send next day if I didn't manage to fix it.
The board also, so far (when not under-attack from constant power cuts) works flawlessly. No driver issues, no problems. Windows 8 is a real pleasure now. A really good upgrade (i7 4770k from i5 750 - P55) Probably doesn't make much difference gaming wise, but Windows is great. Really quick and responsive. I didn't really think it that would be a benefit before I upgraded. My PC is also, thanks to the board's sloped PWM controls, totally silent, even with the stock fan (waiting on some new TIM) - All is now well.
Thanks Gigabyte, you've made a good board - and thanks Overclockers!
