Nvidia Drivers - safe to update yet?

Why do you have to keep citing your problems with AMD?

Because its highly relevant to the topic/context? I'm fairly sure I have said that I loved my 7950b (if AMD hadn't been so poor with the drivers I would still have it and proberbly consider it the best card I have ever owned) and that it was much better bang for buck than the 670, but I'm not going to let that rose tint the experience in my mind.

Its called context, I was replying to a post showing how well Nvidia were dealing with a recent driver issue. I compared it to how poorly AMD (Nvidias competition) dealt with another recent driver issue.

AMD deal with their driver issues very well, Nvidia have been ignoring a whole host of issues over the past few months, including those drivers killing GPU's

AMD has been doing the same, we even have Thracks on this forum.

Your context is off because this is an acknowledgement of a general issue and not a one to one issue.

If you go over to the NV forum you will see users getting upset with NVs seeming lack of acknowledgement of plenty off issue.

On this we have differing opinions but that's why they are called opinions, from my POV AMD took an entire year to fix a major compatibility issue with one of the most popular games on the planet and never even acknowledged it. I'm not saying Nvidia are saints, I've had issues with their drivers too over the years (and lets not forget when they lowered image quality to boost performance back in the GF4/R9700 days) but at least they seem to be acknowledging problems and working with users on them as opposed to stonewalling everyone.

My reply was in reference to a general issue not a one to one issue.

And issue with a specific game ran in a specific DX mode is not a general issue, its a specific issue with a game, its a normal coarse of events with drivers, don't expect some big announcement.

Yes I know, my mothers GTX 650TI is and has been running like a bag of nails for I don't know how many drivers.... I can't update them and Nvidia don't respond to my complaints let alone fix them.

I put an Nvidia GPU into my mothers rig because she knows nothing about computers and I did not want to go back and forth having to fix driver issues, you know, with the 'Past' AMD driver issues.

Oh how I regret that, AMD's drivers these past few moths have been absolutely rock solid, Nvidia, an absolute shambles.

That's the first time I have said that and i'm not going to go on about it^^^^^

The only minor trouble I had was with 314.22 - I think, and even that I didn't give much of a fair test tbh.

One thing I would like to see fixed... In Nvidia surround (triple-screen mode), right clicking on an item in the Windows taskbar causes the right-click menu to appear in the top-left corner of the desktop, rather than next to the thing you just clicked. Really annoying when the top-right corner of the desktop is over 4ft away from where you clicked!

Do you not run with "Span displays with surround"? This is how I have mine set up and everything just works with the task bar on the middle screen. Idle clocks of 324Mhz as well.

Not sure if this is what you mean?

Yeah, I use "span displays with surround". And I get the right-click menu bug. Googling around it seems that quite a few people have this issue (dating back to February this year).

... it would be also be nice if the drivers didn't crash and corrupt every other time I switch between single GPU and SLI mode! I've been doing a bunch of benchmarks so I can compare the i7-930 to the 4770k I'm going to upgrade to tomorrow. I just had another hard lock, and this is the fourth time I've had to reinstall drivers!

As soon as the benchmarking is done on the new machine I'm rolling back to some older, more reliable drivers.

Ahhh. I am lucky in that respect and no matter what or where I right click, the menu appears next to where I click. I am on Windows 7, so not sure if that makes a difference.

Agreed on the crashing when switching between SLI and single. That was a complete nightmare when doing all those game bench results and has been broken since I was using SLI 680's (not sure if it was an issue prior?).

The same goes for switching drivers for me, I am forever having to press the reset (not so bad with later drivers in fairness) and starting over. Another issue I have is switching from single to multi screen and that is having to turn off smooth scroll and anything to do with my keyboard (Logitech G510).

It is all minor things but annoying none the less.

Just had a play on BF3 and what have they done? This game used to be ultra smooth but was far from it. I can see why people are not happy with these (especially if BF3 is the main game).

Yeah, I hear 320.11 are fine with BF3 but I had the same issue as I did with 320.18 ? I moved from the Red team's drivers & they worked fine with BF3, kinda sux !
