Hello everyone,

I'm currently looking for a new config but I have no idea where to start... :(
There are so many gear options and different specs that I don't know which one would suit me best.

I use my pc to game heavily mostly but I would like to start streaming (1080p), do some video editing, photoshop etc.. (Keep in mind, I'm a novice user)
I would like something that would be comfo for the next 3-4 years. I also do realise some components need to be changed from time to time.

Budget is around 1000£, I could put an extra 100-150£ if it would make some signifficant change.

If possible I would also like to understand why people use certain components over others. I'm trying to learn as much as possible, but seeing this will be the first time building a pc, I wanted some advice first. I have never overclocked a pc but I'm sure I can find tutorials on youtube or wherever so that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks in advance :)

(Mouse, keyboard, screen, speakers, windows are not needed)

If you do a lot of video editing, photoshop etc, then an I7 would be beneficial as this has hyperthreading which can be utilised by some programs. The I5 does not have hyoerthreading.

Yeah, get the biggest air cooler you can fit into the case. Mickyflinn's build is perfect, the GPU will handle everything you throw at it at 1080p for a while. Normally i would say drop down to 8gb RAM but considering you do some video editing and the price of the RAM chosen, i cant really argue.

Much better mobo for overclocking and it's Xfire capable. This 7870 is closely related to the 7950, overclock it and you are trading blows with a stock 7950. They are awesome for the price and you can always add another, the PSU can cope with dual GPUs :)

Large SSD with respectable write speeds and 2TB of storage (dropping to 128GB will bring you back on budget). Heatsink is a beast to help you overclock. 16GB of 2400Mhz RAM, it's quite tall so leave the first DIMM slot by the CPU vacant. All in a decent midi tower case with a window to show off the colour coded insides :)

P.S You get free games with the 7800 or 7900 GPUs too. You'll see quite a few specs I imagine as you have a decent budget. I look forward to seeing what you settle on in the end :D

Loving that spec Hono :D

Now I don't have to do one. Haha :p

Thanks! It's an option for sure.

I'm expecting someone to say I'm bonkers for using the 7870XT instead of a "Full Fat 7950" and that I'm "overspending" on the mobo. However as I said that 7870XT when overclocked will go toe to toe with a stock 7950. If he is going to upgrade anything in that spec down the road........it will be the GPU. He can either replace it or maybe add another 7870XT 2nd hand perhaps.

Thats what I always get if I do a similar spec. Nobody seems to believe me when I say that the 7870 Tahiti LE can overclock to match an HD7950 for £50 - £70 less. Those cards are fantastic value for money.

And I don't think £173 is overspending on a motherboard for a £1000 - £1200 PC really... Pricier motherboards exist for a reason after all, but the UD3H or the D3H would be fine as well if you wanted to save a little I suppose.

Thanks for the responses! Really appreciated

I think I'll give Hono's config a shot :) Will just need to learn how to overclock but it seems fun so... Let's do this!! ^^
