Delidded my 4670K What Thermal Compound

Operation Delid successful.......

Well almost 100% successful, the teeth on my vice cut into the IHS a tad, so i took a bit of wet and dry and sanded down the slight bulge on the IHS mounting surface this cause......

will this cause any ill effect with my heatsink???

Intersting to see the silicon wasn't even 100% around the perimeter....

Looks like you've got some lapping to do to get that head spreader usable.

Well done, you're defo braver than I. :)

ooo:D

you done well,i doubt those would affect anything aslong as you can fine sand them level

looking at the cpu I bet you could stick a thin strip of electrical tape over those transistors, lookslike its lower than the die

I guess i could go the whole hog a lap the ISH. Here it is all cleaned up!!...

I would try it as it is without lapping, whatever the outcome its gonna be better than the crappy paste, you did a good job of cleaning it up

Yeah to be fair after a quick go over with the wet and dry on the effected areas i have run my finger across the top surface of the IHS (where the heatsink would sit) and i cant fell any unevenness with my finger so should be good enough i guess?

Will the Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra effect the IHS if its lapped as i will have taken the nickel plating off??

yh could cut a very thin strip just to cover them, don't stick it too hard just incase it pulls any resistors off with the tape ect

I have just look at the profile of the cpu and whilst the resistors do indeed sit lower and the dye there is very little in it, maybe with the tape added on top of the resistors it might stop the IHS from sitting flush with the dye??

I don't think it would, what you don't want is the metal cap touching/shorting on those resistors, esp now it sits lower due to you scraping off the black adhesive

id sit a thin piece of tape over them just to be sure or better still stick it on the underside of the cap where it sits above the resistors

Driver128, how'd you get your overclock to stick?

I've left everything on AUTO except just the multiplier but the damn thing won't overclock. Same motherboard and CPU as you. What settings did you use?

Now thats an idea, would sticking the tape to the underside also stop any possible CCL getting on the resistors do you think. I have just stuck it to the chip itself and just pressed down on the edges of the tape and not down in the middle of the tape where the resistors are....

that's it,aslong as you use little liquid as poss it won't run off the die, remember not to move the cap around too much either after you've applied it as it might push some off the die

place the cpu in the motherboard first, apply the liquid and sit the cap on,hold it in place and clamp it down, then apply more liquid ontop of the cap and sit your cooler on

Ok will do, so i dont need to add any to the underside of the cap as well then, just on the dye will be enough?
