I'm not sure if this is a home & garden thread or a sports thread so I am posting it in GD.
Today instead of using my lawn tractor I decided to get some "functional fitness" exercise and mowed 3/4 acre of lawn with my normal push mower (with the self-propelled feature disabled) and wow let me tell you, that is a great workout! It develops everything - legs of course, arms/back/chest from pushing/pulling in awkward spots (like under bushes and around obstacles), and grip strength. Then using my 26cc 2-stroke strimmer afterwords really finishes off the grip strength workout, my hands were badly shaking.
On the uphill areas I sprint up them and it's like pushing a weight sled, it works your calfs/thighs and shoulders/chest/triceps really well. Then on the flat areas I walk at a brisk speed to recover so it's like HIIT training. Next time I am going to add some small weight plates to the mower to make it more challenging, and perhaps wear a weight vest. It takes 2-3 hours to complete, and do this 3 times a week and I guarantee you would get awesome results, no joke.
