If this is true Microsoft must be desperate

Microsoft is allegedly paying many third-party publishers so that they won't show off their PlayStation 4 games at E3 2013, according to a new report.

E3 2013, the most important games convention out there, is set to begin next week, and both Microsoft and Sony are expected to focus heavily on their next-gen consoles, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, respectively.

In order to gain the upper hand on Sony, Microsoft is apparently resorting to some unorthodox practices, like paying a lot of money to third-party publishers so that they won't show their PlayStation 4 games either on stage or at their actual booths.

The report arrives from a source on NeoGAF, which posted a lot of true rumors in the past, so it's possible that Microsoft really is resorting to such tactics ahead of E3 2013.

The company emphasized that at the event it's going to focus only on games for the Xbox One, so it could try to create a false sense that more games are coming to Xbox One than PS4.

Do people really believe this stuff? If MS don't show enough games at E3 it'll be because it's not a games console, it's a TV. If they do show more than Sony it'll be because they've supposedly paid developers to not show PS4 games.

Really? Or could it be site and blogs are posting ever more outlandish "anonymous reports" to drive clicks and advertising? Especially when the source is a random poster on a video game forum with no verification, proof or independent confirmation.

Wow... just wow...

I mentioned this in one of the threads a few days ago, its quite a bizarre tactic if true as surely those held back announcements would just happen post E3? I dont understand what theyll achieve as surely the kinds of people that watch E3 are the same people that no doubt read many of the games related news websites out there or the tech related tv shows and so eventually the truth of what games are on what platform will be out visibly in public anyway and this apparent mis-deed by MS.

I dont think its desperate, I just think MS are just flexing their corporate muscles where if they cant manage to internally build a better product/service theyll happily throw money around to ensure it doesnt appear that way - thats plain PR no? They are the kings of timed exclusives so I guess this is the natural extension of timed announcements :p

Its not great for gaming, but apparently not a lot at E3 is going to be anyway ;)

There's a difference between timed exclusive which happens across the industry and accusations from a random poster on a forum that "Microsoft are paying developers not to show their PS4 games at E3".

What next, Sony paying developers not to develop games for Xbox in a desperate bid to gain credibility as a gaming console, *Killzone etc*

It's beginning to sound like Sony have taken a leaf out of Samsungs book in paying to rubbish a competitor on the net. Perhaps that should be the next unsubstantiated "rumour" to be taken as real?

Calm down Macro - unless are you one of those reeditors that MS employ? Hmmm, someone RTM him! :p. Its silly season so anything that can be concocted will be newsworthy, Im sure people are bright enough to make up their own minds...

EDIT: Ive just heard that Sony have been doing the same with developers - here Ill find the quote:
Sony paying developers not to develop games for Xbox in a desperate bid to gain credibility as a gaming console, *Killzone etc*

Those sly Japanese people!

FOR GODS SAKE ......don't judge a console on the games it comes out with .. the 1st year is bs anyway ... it's the end product long term that counts ..... which is why , after i initially bought a xbox first , i'm now using the ps3 90% of the time

This kind of BS just irritates me, I'd say the same if it had have been levelled at Sony. The trouble is people repeat this kind of stuff enough and before you know it thousands are taking it as true because it said so on the internet. You only have to read some of the comments of the sites it's been re reported on to see people going full retard... *sigh*

Dammit - discovered... Actually MS pay me so much I have a team of ninja Dwarfs write up my posts for me. Don't make me send them your way, at their height they can do a lot of damage with a keyboard.... /nod

To be honest this sort of thing has went on for years. Read a story years ago during the Saturn/Playstation days that Sony were doing this sort of thing.

It's just like Sony or Microsoft paying to get their product at the front of a Game store and more shelve space. Both company's will do whatever it takes to win the next generation, just so happens that Microsoft have more money :p

Well, we'll know at E3. If all or most of the multiformat games are shown with the Xbox. It would be pretty blatant and funny.

The same Neogaf who tends to be first with everything and is the largest gaming forum on the net?

That one?

They are not first with everything, I'd go as far to say that they are not first with most things. What they are, is first to discuss a lot of gaming articles that pop up on gaming websites but to say they are "first" with everything is just plain wrong imo.

While they often have a lot of the rumors first (among a pile of incorrect BS), it is like a primary school playground on there. Hilarious to read on occasion but I would go nuts if I spent much time on there.
