Ok here is the story!

The winning bidder never paid for the auction so i put in a non paying claim from ebay, about an hour after the claim was put in he paid for it

Anyway the motherboard Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 was working perfectly on Thursday afternoon and i mean it was in perfect condition!

I packed it well and sent it via special delivery and it arrived on Friday. Friday night i get the first email from him

"Hello i have received the motherboard in good condition :) but the motherboard isn't actually loading, its powering up all the components then its powering down and rebooting, any idea why?"

"its powering up all the components then its powering down and rebooting"

My first reply...

You mean the OS isn't loading?

So i am guessing you can enter the bios?

Have you just attached your old hard drive to the motherboard with the old OS on it?
XP or windows 7?

His reply

hi,
no, it doesnt even get to the bois, all other parts are checked and working, it just light up 3 times and reboots itsself

My reply

what ram are you using? what voltage etc
What cpu are you using with the motherboard
Are the computer case wires ( reset, power on etc ) in the correct motherboard pins

What do you mean lights up 3 times?
Do all the fans work, have you connected the 24pin power and 4/8 pin power to the motherboard

Just load the bare min to the motherboard, ram, cpu and try testing
You can even test the motherboard without a computer case as it as an on - off / reset button on the board

And now his classic reply

i dont time for all of this, im happy to just send it back its clearly not working

So i am trying help this guy out while biting my tongue
and he throws it back in my face

Basically i was thinking he never wanted the board in the first place and is just messing me about, but i receive the below reply from him

"I have looked more closley and the CPU LED flashes red then powers everything down, internet says faulty board so please arrange a pickup so you can refund"

So can anyone shed any light on the above problem

Thanks

Would be an impossible task to identify the problem if your customer isn't willing to participate in fault finding. The only information provided is that there is a problem with the CPU - perhaps the CPU fan isn't plugged in, or the bios needs updating to add compatibility for the installed CPU.

That's what I hate about eBay. You are going to have to get him to send it back to you and refund him as they normally side with the buyer in disputes. As a private seller you don't have to pay the return postage IIRC.

He's probably keeping your working board and sending you back his faulty one.

may well be this, I had someone try a similar thing with a motherboard several years back, luckily the listing photos had the serial number in, and the returned serial wasnt the same so ebay sided with me.

OP, did you record all serial number and marking ion the motherboard.

Issue with the board could be the new user has not installed the 4 or 8 pin for cpu power, ram in the incorrect slots (my X58 does did this) he rammed the cpu in and damaged the pins in the socket or just a simple CMOS reset may cure the problem.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Yes i marked down all the serial numbers and marked the board with a security marker

I find it strange he bidden on my auction because i have checked his bidding history and 5 days before he bought my board he bought a refurbished board which is just a bare board. So my feeling is either he has broken this board or wants to keep my io shield etc

As for the buyer returning the board, i totally agree i once bought a thermal printer from the US and had to pay £130 to ship it back!. But this buyer wants me to pay for a courier to pick up the board!! In fact he keeps on repeating this demand. I have told him straight 3 times open a claim on ebay and return the board

I just feel he has either broken the board or it's not broken and to avoid a non paying strike he thought he would buy it and then return it and get me to pay for the return as well. Just something dodgy about him

Bottom line i know for a fact this board was in perfect working order on Thursday afternoon and i sent it in it's original box and wrapped large bubble wrap around it and then stuck it another box. So how it can suddenly not work a day later i do not know

I sold a CPU once, tis the only second hand PC part i ever sold cause it worked when i took it out then was dead on arrival at he guys house who bought it, put me off selling stuff so i always just gave away used parts after that. I guess some people are a bit heavy handed and break stuff trying to install it, sounds like hes already broke one board, now hes broke yours, or it might just be hes got the other board he bought working, and now doesnt need yours.

Sound like he either wanted your IO shield etc for his refurb board or he plans on sending you his broken refurb board back to you and keep yours, I would only sell used parts on here with members that have good trust, actually amazing how many boards you see for sale on ebay with bent pins etc. Good luck hope you sort it.

Buyer on Ebay is always right, whatever he claims.

Seller is right once he shows proofs like police report :/

Motherboard might be damaged by buyer (bent / broken pins), so unless you investigate it - you wouldn't know.

But buyer might be a total lame from the other hand - and Ebay's policy in such case is on his side - but whatever he is not able to do (to make mobo working) it doesn't matter as he always can return item for refund regarding to this Ebay policy.

I've sold once GF 8800GS and it was in perfect working condition. Buyer told me it was not working and sent it back via claim. Once unpacked, I smelled fried plastic... LOL.. and full of bad premunitions put card to slot, fired up PC... LOL, it worked completely fine. Only backplate was bent, so it turned out customer was total lame and broke hardware a bit. There was no reason to report to police.. what exactly - bent backplate ? I've repaired it (strenghten backplate) and sold again - next buyer never complained, but few quids went out of my pocket :)

Though there is not much info to go on. I reckon the issue is:

He is trying to use an Ivy bridge CPU in that mobo. Although the motherboard says it can run ivy bridges, some of the older ones contain the 'old' bios. To fix it the BIOS needs updating. This can either be done by putting a different CPU in such as a sandybridge or taking it to a shop to be done (they charge about £10 to do so).

It sounds like buyers remorse, or he had a faulty board and did a switch so that you will get his faulty board back.

I would ask him to return it and make clear that you will check that it is the board you sent him (serial no. etc) before refunding him, if you didn't make a note of it then you'll just have to bluff. If he is trying to con you that should deter him at least.

It could be a genuine incompatiblity but if he is not willing to even try then there's not much you can do to help.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I actually emailed the other seller from ebay and it turns out he bought 2 boards from the other seller

Anyway i asked the other seller if he had any problems from the buyer and got the below reply!!

"Yes, we had some problems with this eBay user as he first said that he haven't received it, then when we've sent him a POD he said one of the boards is faulty and now he is claiming they are both not working.

We will contact eBay regarding this to see what are out options"

So he is trying to scam the other seller as well and the best part is when i emailed the buyer yesterday and said i thought it was funny he had bought the same board from another seller he replied with the following

"Yes, and they work unlike yours I buy and fix up pcs .makes iy hard when fools like u try stuff on here I will go yhrough ebay as u requested, your board dont work, im not paying for your slip up joker"

He has now opened a case on ebay against me, but i will be contacting ebay with this info. If anyone has anymore advice it would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

They'll still probably side with the buyer, if you want to make your case you will need to ring Ebay support directly. Good Luck though.

Just provide all information to ebay including the information about his attemps to do this to other sellers.

This guys Claims that he fixes computers and re sells them would indicate that he is capable of doing what most of use would do to fault find but when you asked him for information to help he was unwilling to supply it which to me would indicate he doesnt have a clue.

So hes obviously lying as well as being insulting AND make sure you bad rep this guy on ebay as i always check peoples feedback rating before buying and such and it may help other people avoid this fool in the future.

Just a little more update

Got another reply from the other seller

"Thank for the info, that will definitely help us to resolve the issue.

In our case he first claimed that he haven't received it, then that one of the boards was damaged and now he says that they both restart when Windows is loading..

Funny thing is that he has asked me now how to format a HDD...so it doesn't look like he knows how to fix PCs...

We are able to track serial numbers of all of our products so if we would send us not our item we will reject it and report to eBay.

Kind Regards"

After i got the above reply i emailed the buyer said BUSTED mate, caught you in big lie. I am reporting you to ebay

His replies were

"Well actually I got there one working?"

Shut up about busted u pagan all **** sorted with him its just ur ****ed up board

So now is claiming the other boards work to me but claiming they don't work to the other seller. Unless he has now backed out of the other case?

Anyway i have reported his abusive emails to ebay and ebay have advised me not to refund him as they will be looking into the case and his account. So now i wait to see if ebay will decide in my favour. As you we all know ebay mostly go with the buyer but yuou never know!

In the mean time ebay have given me an email address so i can send all the photos i took of the board before shipping

About the guys feedback he have all + ( just 24 feedback )
But read through the feedback an noticed the below from one seller

" Dont bother. Lies. Contradictions. Will try to buy out of ebay. Aggressive. "

Say to him " I'll take the board back and once I check the serial number and the 8 security marks and that the board is mine and working then ill issue a refund"

That will scare him a bit, worked for me a few times.

Cheers yep done that, funny enough i did the same with a AMD 7950 card i bought from overclockers in April
I bought the card for litecoin mining but decided in the end it wasn't worth it and sold it a few weeks later on ebay

Well again the buyer claimed it was broken
I said to him hey send it back and i will check it will my security marks and i will also send it back to overclockers and they will check it too. And low and behold he got the card working!

Anyway about the current buyer he has left me negative feedback for me ( first on my account )
He hasn't left any negative feedback for the business seller
probably too scared to, but he did leave negative feedback to the other seller a few weeks back

He left the following, which i believe is against ebay rules to leave abusive feedback...Anyway i have contacted the other seller to see how he tried to scam him!

top ***** seller, gave me the wrong item and others were damaged/not working
