Hi guys.

It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and I'm treating myself to a few things including a new keyboard. I've never used a mechanical keyboard but I've heard nothing but good things about them.

My question is what would be a good first mechanical keyboard.

Looking to sped around £60-£80. Give or take.

I would like a backlit one but its not essential. Pretty lights are always nice.

I've looked at the deathstalker any +1's for that ? I also like the look of te alienwar tact x keyboard too. I know it's mechanical but it looks good.

Thanks

I picked up a K70 a few weeks back and so far i'm loving it. Had a sticky W key but thats now sorted, i can't comment on the options you have listed but for me the K70 is great.

As others have already said, If you want to spend a little extra the K70 is perfect however keeping to budget the quick fire rapid pro is an excellent keyboard.

Quick Fire Rapid. It's nearly a Filco but half the price.

Fixed. But I would recommend one. They're very solid keyboards.

I don't believe either the Deathstalker or TactX you mentioned are mechanical keyboards.

& just in case you haven't seen my quick guide: :p

Switches
Linear: MX Red and MX Black. Reds have a light feel to them, and Blacks need a bit extra force to press them. I find the reds are a little lighter than my membrane board, where as the blacks are a little heavier. Best switch type for FPS gaming, but still fine for typing on. Reds are associated with typing errors, where some people (limp wristers) say the blacks give fatigue.

Click: MX Blue. Have a very nice feel, with a noticeable bump before actuation, then a click as they are pressed. Best for typing, but are nice for gaming. They are loud!, but are silenced to a quieter click when a dampener is used.

Tactile: MX Brown, no click, and slightly lighter than my membrane board. Have a little bump at actuation that isn't felt when bottoming them, but is when typing. The best all-round key, and my personal favourite.
