Sapphire HD 7970 VAPOR-X GHZ coil whine

You're the one saying its unacceptable if it can be heard at distance. I'm saying its subjective. Whats unacceptable to you may be normal to others (i.e me!)

Pulling things out of context yet again.

That was in relation to the LCD comment and your picking a very unlikely to be an accepted issue.

The context is that some things are commonly accepted to be heard at a distance and some things are not, how much noise is subjective.

But that ain't the main point.

The point is you telling others what they should accept it at a particular level and you not being able to accept that many people don't have that level of coil whine and they need to be unrealistically close to hear it and the fact you continually take a figure of speech out of context and apply it literally.

I didn't tell people that they should or should not accept a level of coil whine at a distance, i said i would not accept that level, if they are happy with it then it makes no difference to me.

My msi 7970 OC has very mild coil whine when i pump a lot of voltage through it. Otherwise its virtually unnoticeable and not in any way annoying.

I've now had three HIS 7950 Ice-Q's (soon to be 4) and none of them have had even the slightest bit of coil whine.

Which Ice-q version do you have? The blower or dual fan.

Bet its not as loud as the whine in this thread.

If I buy a 7950 that's the one I'll get.

ps. won't blame you if it whines :D

:p

Well i will be ordering a 4th as 5UB comes online at 9am. Sadly the one im now sending back appears to be a golden clocker, 1200 core at stock voltage and much higher appears possible without artifacts. Just my luck.

I have definately got a whine on one of my HIS 7970's but I can hardly notice it, even less when the fans speed up, I had the same with the Sapphire 7070 OC Boost TBH and the Gigabyte 7970 GHz edition had it too along with my old PSU (which I changed recently)
So I agree that a lot of these cards have a whine of some sort, some may not, I don't care really as mine work fine and clock well at reasonable temps.
