Police on driving on the phone

2 way radios for the most part are exempt. hence police various emergency services taxi drivers etc etc get away with using them whilst driving.

also exempt if your making an emergency call ie phoning 999 and it wouldn't be safe to stop.

this is why you see the topgear team etc getting away with using 2 way radios etc.

Yes, that's a bit more accurate :) It's done based on frequencies used, so Police radios can make calls to the normal phone network, but these are still exempt as the TETRA radio doesn't use GSM frequencies.

So the guy uses his phone while driving to film a not-actually-police police officer using his phone while driving?

Logic, not even once.

Could 'joe bernard' be "done" for that video?

Edit: Looking through 'joe bernard's youtube history it doesn't surprise me, what a moron.

even if it were true who cares?

It's not much different to a police officer involved in a car chase at high speeds relaying information over the radio which we all know they do.

I'd imagine police officers have a higher tolerance to multi tasking and driving at the same time without being distracted compared to a regular member of the public

It's not the fact he wouldn't be capable, it's the fact that if it was true, it would be against the law. And also, most traffic cars if possible have 2 officers so that one officer can relay the commentary whilst the other concentrates of driving.

Get back in your hole.

Police have specific exemptions for radio use, not for mobile phones. That and it's a bit hypocritical tbh.

Silly question: In a high speed chase there are often 2 officers in a car (as seen on TV shows) - why is it the passenger can't be using the radio? Every show I've seen it's the driver doing both!

Just seems very silly?

I love your optimism, but we don't have luxuries like double crewed cars in this age of austerity much anymore. :(

Passengers usually do the commentary.

Killing a biker whilst driving without due care or attention, or even dangerous driving, doesn't seem to be as serious an offence as killing someone not on a bike. It certainly seems that way going by the sentances some people get :(

there was a funny thing recently some bloke talking about a scheme in Scotland saying the Scotland wide scheme to get unsafe motorcycles off the road had caught 8 bikes and 121 cars....

Burnsy2023 - What happened regarding security looking like police officers? I seem to recall you would get back to us on the results and what you were doing with them.

I completely forgot about that. I'll have to dig out the spreadsheet I did some analysis on.

The Police are like any profession, there are ****'s and there are the decent ones.

It's the CPS that are the problem.

This pic is doing the rounds on Twitter:

Fun fact for you: that's not a Police van and that person driving isn't a Police officer.

The you tube video has been removed and I don't dispute your knowledge but when I mention this to others they will want to know how it is not a police van and police officer. Can you shed some more light please.

The Police should not be and are not above the law that they are tasked to enforce. Unfortunately sometimes, some of them tend to forget that.

(mind you, don't we all!)
