ACER & WINDOWS 8 REFUND POLICY - JOKE

Proves what you siad is cobswallop
Oh yes these 10year old tablets that were crap, running an OS that was not designed for touchscreen, long periods of use, low power etc.

And no that's not what you siad.
You said they don't use metro apps, yes they do.

Oh dear god. I just told you to learn the difference between Hardware, software, OS and apps and you get em all mixed up again.

Obviously 10 year old tablets were crap in comparison to the tablets of today, but that's got absolutely nothing to do with Windows 8 or Metro. You could still get W8 on one, at least one certified for Vista at least.

Secondly, if you're going to create a bespoke application then the underlying OS doesn't mean anything.

Thirdly, I didn't say they don't use metro apps. In fact I said they do use Email and Contacts apps. And I also gave reasons why checking the weather app would be good for an Tel/Gas engineer so his manhole doesn't get flooded :p.

Where is this conversation going exactly? because it feels like nothing but rage, for what?

so why not send him the bios? and warn him if he borks it then his warranty is void
Atleast give an option

Because the customer is always stupid in the eyes of Customer Services. Or supposed to be stupid anyway.

Like Virgin Media. They wanted an engineer to come round and install a signal attenuator. I told them it's a 10 second job and if they tell me the ideal power level I can attenuate it myself.

"No" they told me. I still essentially told em to **** off, found the power levels online and ended up doing it myself anyway :D

Companies are silly sometimes.

yea but It's not like asus don't release bios for their regular motherboards.

lets face it they just want to milk people who buy prebuilds and laptops

Very good point.

And it's not just Asus or motherboards, I've seen bios updates in the download sections of many laptop manufacturers.

That's irrelevant. It's nothing to do with the components side of the business.

It's a Microsoft anti-piracy measure that is imposed on all the large computer manufacturing corporations. If they don't agree to it, they don't get to sell machines with Windows 8 installed from the factory.

BIOS updates shouldn't touch the windows marker unless the manufacturer screws up.

Hmmm. Why oh why would someone buying a new computer with Win 8 already on it be interested in pirating Win 8?

No wonder Windows 8 activation is already cracked. :D

Here's a question.

Do all computers within a model range come with :
1) Windows 8 only?
2) the same edition of Windows 8 installed?

There's your answer.

1) Yes. Windows 7 is not available on new systems anymore.

2) No. There are different versions of windows, such as Professional and Home.

But what's that got to do with piracy? If anyone wants to pirate the Professional version onto their Home laptop then they already know how to do it. And it's already been done by god knows... tens of thousands? Millions? I don't know but it's been done.

1. Wrong
2. Exactly

If you don't believe 1) I'll happily show you a newly unboxed ThinkPad from work with Windows 7 Pro installed.

Fair enough you selected Win 7 Pro when you specced the system, but what's that got to do with anti-piracy measures?

If you wanted Win 8 then you would have specced it when you ordered the laptop no?
