FPS Been done too much?

I've tryed sooooo many lol, miss the good old days of wolfenstein, simple fun shooter. i've got bdl2 and bioshock but played em both too death need more dlc to come out, wanted get to get crysis 3 but my pc atm is way to underpowered to run it, i have a rule if i cant play at least high i wont touch it. Tryed cs-go and i was fun to bring back memorys of old but lost its fun somwere along the line, also tryed planetside2 and couldnt figure out wtf was going on with that lol I feel like we could do with a really good sci fi shooter aliens looked fun to me till i read the reviews :( Playing dead island riptide atm but its not really an fps.
Will look at singularity and rising storm see what there about :)

All the innovation has gone out of the genre because gamers are a fickle bunch. As game development has become more expensive the risks are ever higher and no one wants to risk upsetting the majority and so we end up with the same old stuff year after year.

When you've got game developers making a big deal over a crossbow being in a game then you know the genre is in trouble.

You could argue the same thing with fighters, but both are very versatile genres and games like Metro show that regardless of how generic a shooter is it can still be very good. The problem with genres is that there are bound to be 'too many', just look at J-RPGs, there are more of them than there are FPS games and it's a genre that is still going strong. Same with western RPGs, there are more of those too. When you crack onto a fantastic formula there are bound to be tons of them, the only instance I've seen where a genre has been done to much and has turned into total trash is the horror film.

I reccomend Red Orchestra...the original.

I don't like 2 a great deal but 1 is perfect, never has lining up a headshot with a bolt rifle been so satisfying.

The mod darkest hour is great aswell. Sadly there's not many players these days but there's still a dedicated small bunch of players and you're guaranteed full servers in the evening/weekends.

The graphics on that are shocking. I don't mean to sound like a snob but I want something current gen...
It's a work in progress & as for current it's not even out yet but even if you don't like the graphic it's still looking more tactical then practically anything else coming out (Arma 3 the exception).

Never, something will always come along and revive the genre. It's just a matter of perspective after all, the content capacity is almost endless.

Metro Last Light is very enjoyable, and Bioshock Infinite.

yup thats so HL2....

at least bring something new to the table it's not like theres a whole range of real world prototype guns they could model in the game...

that fake russian guy on youtube gets enough of them

I second what a couple of people have said:

Planetside 2

and

Singularity

Warning: You may end up spending a huge amount of your life playing Planetside 2 if you choose to download it.

I would say it has been done too much but i still seem to enjoy the better ones. Im waiting on my new GFX card to play through bioshock, i have it on the Xbox but i found the game limited by the hardware & i always struggle with control pads over keyb&mouse.

Only an hour? It takes a bit of getting used to - but it's a great game once you get the hang of it.

*Checks time played on Planetside 2... 11 days... damn*
