Bad time to buy a 7950?

Ocuk will price match HIS 7950 Ice-Q's for £230 as they can be had somewhere in the world for that price. I've also rma'd one dodgy card so currently ive spent £460 and i have 12 games to sell to recoup money. I reckon im looking at around £380, maybe more/less once ive sold the games. Titan beating performance for less than half the price. To quote carley from the valleys, partial!

Well played sir. Kinda wish I went down the 7950CF route instead of 7970CF considering the difference is minimal.

Never mind. What did you do with your 7970 with Accelero? That card clocked like a beast. Am I right in saying it was the MSI OC? I just got 1 of them as my 2nd card. Looking forward to getting the block on it and plumbing it in.

I've still got it and it may well end up on the MM, same with the gpu. ;)

Get it tri-fired lol. Nah I know form experience getting even 2 Accelero's to fit would be a nightmare, far less trying to squeeze it in with 2 ice-q's.

My Accelero will be on MM as well as soon as I get access, if I haven't sold it elsewhere first. Great cooler, but I wasn't satisfied by VRM temps. Although having seen your configuration of heatsinks on Accelero thread I don't think I had heatsinks on all of the neccesary components. In the end decided to go the water-cooled route which has been great fun, if a bit on the expensive side.

I've now added about £100 to the price of any GPU I buy in future, if I want to put a block on it. :(

Tempted, though i think on the p8p67 deluxe it would run x8 x8 x4. However i should add that there is very little difference on crossfire between x8 x8 and x16 x4. All that happens is the x4 gpu usage sits around 90-95% so you don't lose as much performance as you'd think. It would be a tight fit with three, but i think it would be possible just. I can see the third card suffocating a bit though as it would be pressed up against my psu.

Completely off topic sorry, are you saying that 4 games codes arrived with each card even though you RMA'd one of them, you have been able to keep the codes?

Somehow that really doesn't quite seem morally right.

I don't have any morals Bru.

To be fair if the card had of worked i wouldn't have rma'd it and got another one. ;)

Hehe fair enough, as you say it not your fault that the card was faulty, so its all good. :)

Of course if someone was to do this with a DSR then myself I would seriously frown upon them.:(

Maybe i did DSR it just to get the game codes, prepare your frowns Bru. ;)

@adey,

I really can't see what AMD can put out that much faster than a 7950 for ~230 notes and all the games.

If you can fit 2 X Ice-Q's you can fit 2 X Xtremes.;)

Nice. Think I would struggle, as only 40mm seperation between x16 PCI-E slots. Did used to have reference 5870's but even that was tight and top card hit high temps due to suffocation. Waterblocks now, so spacing not a problem.

Is that a P280?

Im in the same boat, wondering whether to upgrade now or later for BF4,do we think the 8950 will be much faster than the 7950 ?

7950 crossfire will be ample for bf4 at the highest details. It runs really nice on a 7990 as we've seen in the trailers.

Remember that the price will be much higher then the gains in performance you get. Also they will probably be late with cards and High End will come out first, so in my opinion. I would just grab an 7950 and overclock it to 1100/1500.

I would go Gigabyte, HIS or Sapphire.

This. I've got mine at 1140/1500 with very little effort and it's a great performing card considering it was only £225.

The 7950s will still probably fetch a decent price second hand when you come to change. The overclock ability and 3gb VRAM makes them fairly future proof.

I am thinking about buying a 3rd one :)

I just need to test if it will work with my motherboard (asus sabertooth z77), because last time I tested windows found the card but I could not enable crossfire.. but I forgot to change in the bios the pci2.0 1x to 4x (so maybe if I change to 4x it will work)
