Well, i'm pretty disappointed that OCUK won't/can't pricematch an i5 3570k. A competitor has it at £35 cheaper, and on a £600 build purchase, they aint interested???? Even with free delivery from OCUK (as forum member) it's way more expensive than the other place.
Bad form......i'll probably buy from the other supplier now just on principal that the amount of money i spend (over £3600 since Jan 2012) with OCUK they won't stretch a little a retain a customer?!?

A bag of haribo's doesn't doesn't make up for it i'm afraid. :(

Although that has given me the munchies now......:p

I tried to get price matching on something recently too, and was denied.

It's such a common practice these days, for the sake of keeping customers I don't see why they wont.

I asked them to price match an SSD about 6 months ago, was substantially cheaper elsewhere they declined bought it from the other place in the end.

Dont understand why they wont price match or even if they cant because they would be taking a loss offer to reduce it a bit!

If company A works hard to secure a good buy price for product x, it may be hard for OcUK to pricematch depending how good the deal company A has.

Look at the crazy prices Gibbo secures for some of the hardware on OcUK, I doubt many competitors would pricematch those.

A lot of price matching just works up the line so their supplier will price match the rate on the supply side so no one really loses out, I'd expect it's a manufacturer that isn't interested or the others are just selling it at a loss or little margin.

Sounds like OCUK need some new buyers to get stock at a lower cost so can sell with a higher profit margin...if the margin is there then you can normally price match and not loose any money as a business...keep the clients happy, increase demand and keep supplier happy by placing more orders for the demand and so the circle continues...

E: but ofc you all know that already

We make very little margin on our products, we will price match when we can, but if we lose money on the product, then it is not viable to be losing money on orders that are placed.

We will help when we can, if you are not happy with the price, then feel free to shop elsewhere if it is a little bit cheaper, but please understand that I will help you when you need help. :)

Yeah.....
although my company is in a different market, we'd often take a hit to secure the business, especially for a repeat customer.
Just seems a little....well....all i can say is disappointing i guess.
I'll not steadfastly refuse to shop here again OCUK are my main supplier, but this £600 build may well go the way of the competitors on this occasion as some of the other products on my list are cheaper there too (£40 case is £10 cheaper, thats 25%!!!), there's a saving to be made, even with paying for delivery.

5UB: i appreciate what you guys do mate, but i wasn't asking you to take a nosedive for everyone.....just me :p

OC:
- pay for these forums
- have staff that aren't the Maccy D rejects you get in certain big box retailers
- have a deserved reputation for knowledge
- have a deserved reputation for customer service
- would be giving you free delivery based on your forum post count

These things cost. 35 quid on a 600 quid sale is likely their entire profit margin (5% by my rough calculation).

They aren't going to lose money just so you spend £600. That's not a lot of money (see below on margins)

Welcome to the world of low-margin commodity PC components! :D

If you make very little margin then surely the business isn't viable? Or is it more the case that the vast quantity of what is sold makes enough profit to make the small margin worth it? I'm confuzzled
