Going for a weekend (Fri 2nd Aug - Sun 4th Aug) away to Amsterdam with 5 other people and we are driving. We've got our hostel (yuk) booked and it's pretty close to the centre (Kerkstraat) so I need to find somewhere to park our car.

I've had a brief look and Amsterdam seems to have some park & ride places for about 8 euro a day which would give 5 of us free travel into the city centre on public transport as well (LINK) which sounds great.

Does anyone have any experience or advice? I want to park outside of the main centre to avoid congestion and safety of the car. We are happy to use public transport to get too and from a car park. 8 euro a day sounds like a very fair rate to me as well.

The one near the stadium is pretty good iirc. Takes about 20 minutes into the centre via tram. I only drove once and it was a bit of a faff, since then i've always done the Stena Line rail and sail thing or KLM from City airport if i'm there for the day.

Thanks, any idea of the name or location as there are a few? We'll be arriving at about midday on a Friday and leaving around the same time on the Sunday.

Ideally I'd like to book something in advanced.

Anybody else got anything else to add?

Will you literally be dropping the car off and coming back to it when you leave? We parked in Haarlem when we went about 5 years ago, can't remember figures but it was a short and cheap train ride in (compared to UK prices anyway..) No idea if the park and ride will work out cheaper or not but 8 euro a day is a good deal.

Yeah drop car off somewhere secure, take all our stuff with us and just return 48 hours later.

Happy to do trains / trans etc... provided the links are good heading towards the town centre and it isn't a long journey. We've driving so ideally don't want to be parking an hour train ride out of Amsterdam really!

P+R Olympisch Stadion (Olympic Stadium), Olympisch Stadion 44, 1076 DE Amsterdam

I have used that about 4-5 times, when driving to Dam from London with friends.

There is no need to book in advance. Last time it was pretty busy when we arrived to had to wait for 30 mins or so, apart from that always gone straight in.

You get the tram tickets to get to the centre and back..takes about 15 mins and its a nice journey anyway.

Sounds like a winner!
