Hey all, would appreciate the help finding my mum a phone. Currently she is using one of them old nokia express musics the 5310, was my old phone about two phones ago.

Now me and my step dad have iphones and shes feeling a bit left out i think without having a smart phone. She doesn't really ring or text allot and looking for something i would guess <£250 she would like it to have a ok-ish camera. She isnt very techsavy although she does own and use an I pad and is comfortable with it.

My thoughts so far are;
Pre-owned Iphone (Best i can get for the money) Because she already knows how to use an Ipad it will be easy for her to pick up and use with the knowledge from the ipad.

Other than that im pritty stumped and would appreciate any input? Thanks!

well i would say nexus 4.. but it will probably be to hard for her unless you set it up really well..

used iphone does sound like the best bet.

Thanks for the reply's, i was thinking about a nexus 4 too but i dont really know a lot about android i have a nexus 7 but only browse the net on it. So i would be stumped by what you mean set it up really well.

I think the options are then pre-owned iphone or me setting up the nexus 4.

Ill speak to her and see what she says :)

by that i mean a simple home launcher and stuff she wants on homescreens and lock it all up so she can't mess around ;D

what i've done with my mums phone is set 3 screens

no dock etc

just 3 screens with massive icon on each for phonebook, texts and phone lol.

Thanks for clearing it up. See the thing is ill try and explain the situation to her but shes only ever had 1 new phone in her life and the rest are hand me downs from me. I think she would like a brand new phone which would throw the iphone out due to cost and be left with a nexus 4. Now it all depends on how the conversation goes i guess. See what she says :)

A Nexus 4 would be prime choice, certainly better than a 2nd hand iPhone for the same cost.

Have you considered getting a FonePad? It's large at 6in but one chief complaint I get from my parents are that the text is too small to read etc (you can increase size on Android easily) but overall a larger screen will help. I think 3.5in is just too small these days.

How about a Nokia 720? Can be had for under £250 on eBay and it packs a decent camera. The user interface really is brilliant, very simple to navigate and use. It should be plenty fast enough for most average users. Plus the front end looks slick when integrated with Facebook etc.

The only thing lacking is the apps but they are catching up slowly and the essentials are already there. I'm a die-hard Android fan but I'v recommended that both my grandad and fiancée go for the 820 and 925 respectively.

I think WP8 gets overlooked a lot and I certainly dismissed the idea at first but it really is quite an impressive OS.

This. Camera is good and it's a lovely phone to use.

This or a used iPhone.

did you even read the thread? the requirement ? anything? if you did i don't think you'd be baffled by the fact that I or others suggest something else.
Yes, it says that it has to be below £250 quid. Said that his mum is familiar with iPads but why would that rule out other phones?
He wanted alternatives to old iPhones otherwise why bother even posting a thread here?
What I have proposed so far are all within his budget and would meet his mum's needs without resorting to getting second hand.

I've had success with getting non-savvy people using Windows Phones, and they like them.

Can't discount already being comfortable with iOS though. Familiarity is a big deal.
