*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

Frankly, I've seen the graphics produced by the Xbox One and PS4, But while great, They don't really push gaming forward do they a whole lot, I feel this is one of the first generations of gaming where we can really say that graphics are not whats important on a new machine anymore.

Sony's take remains to be seen, but I wouldn't say the Xbox One is all about shiny graphics at all. Kinect, Smartglass and a rejuvenated Xbox Live (dedicated servers, cloud processing) have the potential to push gaming forward far more than a humble tablet controller.

That said, I'm not likely to be buying an Xbox One at launch. The games look cracking, as do many of the new features, but as yet the only launch exclusive I'm interested in is Dead Rising 3. For the rest, they're either unknown quantities (Ryse) or are coming to PC as well. If Nintendo get the right line-up of first party titles on to the Wii U this year, I could be tempted. Very much depends on which games and how much the console plus a couple of games will set me back.

At £429 it really needed some big exclusives to draw me in (Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct and Ryse aren't enough to justify a £500 spend). Tell me, how exactly is smart glass kinect and cloud processing actually going to move gameing forward? Will either truly improve gameplay?
The PS4 controller is positively archaic, smart glass is pretty shoddy kinect is fundamentally flawed as a motion capture system and I'm yet to use voice control anywhere that lives up to its purpose.
All I want from either the ps4 or xbone is a decent controller and decent games.

It looks like all I am left with is compromises
The ps4 controller is balls but I like the look of everything else and the sound of the specs
The Xbox controller looks amazing but the games are all a bit men looking and I feel begrudged to part with any of my money if it falls in Microsoft's hands. Ultimately I want to play forza so I'm like a captive audience. What a great way to decide which console you are going to choose eh......

I wonder how much Sony are losing on the PS4 if they can launch at £325 when the Wii U launched at £300, I guess the Wii U and the Xbone just shows that bundling an expensive accessory is a bad move when it comes to pricing.

Blu ray licensing most likely, subsidizing the cost.

I thought it was £349 anyway?

i remember paying 350 pounds for the LE zombie u 32gb pack i had a circular charging dock for 2 wii motes gamepad and pro pad.i got darksiders 2 also for 25 at the same time.
however the LE edition could be had cheaper online at launch at about 320.

the wiii u was little expensive athe the time but some of the launch titles i liked the look of, as we know a lot got delayed. the console can be had a lot cheaper now hopefully they show and good bunch of titles and release dates especially for bayonetta 2 and the new zelda:D

Super Mario 3D World looks good. Smash Bros and Mario Kart are unfortunately next year.

Is it just me, or is the touchscreen gamepad used very little in these games that Nintendo are showing off? Considering how much it added to the cost of the system, I'm really starting to wonder if it was a bad idea (without it, we could have a £150 Wii U. I'm sure many of us would be tempted at that price).

They showed some good games, but with Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros pushed to 2014 they don't really have any system sellers this year.

Super Mario 3D World isn't really what most fans were wanting out of the 3D Mario after Galaxy 1 & 2 either, how Nintendo expect to make 100 billion Yen profit this year from those games I have no idea.

No price drop announced either.

Nintendo should just become a software and handheld company. Seriously. They can't compete with the PS4 and Xbox One, on a hardware of software level. Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo. But they just aren't competitive any more and they showed me no reason to invest in a Wii U other than a remake of a game that came out years ago.

Well in a nutshell there's not much point owning a wiiu until 2014. I'm pleased to see the games in development, but damn its so far away the games are going to dry up. Considering my WiiU's worth right now.

Really hate it when friends Downplay the Wii U, saying it's a dead platform.

I haven't got mine yet (despite being a big Nintendo Fan), but I'm liking the First party line-ups, but the 3rd party really does look dire as hell.

I want Wind Waker HD, Mario 3D and Wonderful 101. But the 3rd party line-up so far has made me rethink about purchasing one.

maybe it would be far easier for Nintendo to re-release the Wii U with the Classic controller, and have the tablet as an accessory.

I'm a massive Nintendo fan but i'm really dissapointed with the release date of games. No point buying a wii u until next year... really peeved atm!!

So the games shown on the nintendo direct video thing are the only new games being released for this console and shown at e3? or are they just the ones nintendo decided to show and their are more to be shown from other developers? im confused!

I imagine the vast majority of those games were playable on the tablet only actually.

What I do wonder is just how much the tablet is utilised as a second screen. A potentially bigger 'game-changer'.

There's a lot of games on that video I will be buying. It's not all bad. Trouble is, a lot of people were expecting 'Galaxy 3' (whatever a proper Mario game would be) as opposed to Mario Bros 2 x Mario 3DS which is what we appear to be getting.

Add that to an expected clip of new Zelda, Metroid and Star Fox from a lot of people and I think it left many disappointed.

The Wii U feels so close to being a superb console, irrespective of the graphical prowess of its competitors, it's just not being supported. That video of 3rd party support was woefully short - ACIV, Batman for example. Good titles, but will be thoroughly overshadowed by their PS4 & XB1 counterparts.
