Hey dudes.

Got a week off in July and thinking of taking the GF to the isle of wight for around 3-5 days. Is there much to do there as in for a week wise? I know the islands small and I don't want to run out of things to do with her in 1-2 days.

Thanks, oh and can you recommend any nice hotels.

Personally, one day max - but I'm not that easily amused (not saying you are mind :p) - just get bored easily.

That's my plans kind of stuffed then haha.

Was either that or in Scotland maybe the Nairn area? Looking for somewere for a week.

Ferries are quite pricey as ferries go so you want to make it cost effective. I'm sure you could find enough things to do for a week, you will be on holiday, you don't need to rush :)

Or go somewhere like the Cotswolds, wye valley, Dorset

Do a couple of days on IoW then catch the hovercraft from Ryde to Southsea do the D-Day museum and do the Historic Dockyards in Portsmouth that takes at least a day.

Quite pricey can be an understatement, the solent crossing can be a right rip off, I recall its one of the most expensive pieces of waterway to cross in europe (in terms of cost to distance)

Wouldn't bother, weekend max. I went back there after many years for a week and couldn't believe how much of it was exactly the same and didn't look like it had changed since (20+years) not even a lick of paint.
Blackgang Chine was exactly the same but slightly smaller where parts of it had fallen off the cliff!

The place is a backwards and not in a quaint cute way, some nice beaches but thats about it.

All depends surely...if your a sailor, its great lots to do, if your a walker then quite a lot of walks to do. Loads of beaches. Some pretty terrible theme parks, but its more than a weekends worth. We went camping for a week a few years ago and kept busy each day.

I'm taking the Wife there for her Birthday for a week in July (I know... Big Spender me!!).

Staying in a Caravan next door to Osbourne House. There's quite a lot to do on the Island if you don't rush at it!. As Rotters said "if your a walker then quite a lot of walks to do". Yeah okay you can do the whole island in a day maybe 2 if you don't like walking, sitting, people watching!, but we're gonna take it easy!!

Price wise, it's not too much more expensive than Cornwall for many things!, some food and drink, but they have to get it shipped to the island!, if you eat local produce it's not too bad!! Apparently there's a Fish n' Chip shop in Ventnor that does freshly caught Crab and Lobster n' chips!! quite cheaply, I'm gonna have me a bucket of that!! :)

Plus if you fill your car from either Sainsburys, Morrisons or Tesco's petrol stations they are about the same as the mainland (Morrisons tend to fix their prices country-wide!).

We got a deal on Red Funnel with our Holiday package (some camp sites and even hotels will do this!!), but Whitelink are 'spensive beyond belief in comparison!!

Go Early July (before the School Holiday's really kick in yo!) and it's not too expensive!! goes up tenfold when the squidleys get let out of their educational prisons!!
