I'm looking to sell my rather lovely Gibson standard faded guitar on eBay. Maybes looking for around £1100, it'll maybes cost £30 to ship in uk only. How much would eBay want for this? Is it worth doing these days?

I'd look for some kind of guitar forum. Far less likely to get some twonk that claims you sent the wrong item etc..

For an item worth that much and so large; I would be selling it in person, for cash and not looking at ebay at all!

Agree with Bledd. Ebay is okay for lesser items but I would never sell something that valuable on there.

For the love of god DO NOT sell that on ebay. Some tit will only try to rip you off. Like said above sell it on a guitar forum

With an item like that I'm sure it would sell privately elsewhere. You could always wack it on gumtree, just do pickup only though.

Try eBay but state that it is collection only and will not post, might be able to do a deal outside of e bay to save fees.

Loads of people buy and sell guitars all the time on eBay. Most of my friend's father's collection (about 40 odd guitars) are from eBay.

Having said that, if you can get the same price cash elsewhere, I would.

Also, state only cash in your auction if they can collect it to avoid PayPal fees. I don't think your courier should be that expensive either...

I've sold multiple guitars on eBay before and have not had a problem. However, I would only offer cash of collection. This is to prevent any claims the item never showed up, or was delivered broken. You will also find most couriers will not insure guitars unless sent in a hard case. For a £1000+ item is it really too much to expect someone to travel, even up to a few hours either way, to collect? Any attempt by buyers to convince you otherwise should ring alarm bells.

In my experience eBay will result in a higher end price and quicker sale than any classified ad/forum post.

I used to use ebay but with there fees and paypal its just not worth it. If i had a spare grand sitting about i'd have it off ya but alas no joy :( Dont bother with gumtree either i used that once or twice and got random plebs from the eastern block saying i buy but you send first. pffff

I have successfully sold lots of stuff via Facebook groups, have a look around for a group near you buying/selling group. Cash on collection and sold as seen......no comeback- no fee no postage
