How about spending less on the cooler and getting a better board?

Gigabyte do a A85 chipset mATX board for £62, you then get SATAIII, USB3.0 and the ability to overclock.

the board was free (won it on here ages ago)
the cooler I got off the MM at a pretty decent price (I think!)

spose i could punt the current board on and put the cash to getting a better board?

I would, I missed that bit as I'm on my phone now.
 
The last tip for APU's is to feed them fast RAM, the integrated gfx speed improves noticeably.

yea read that fast ram can make a pretty significant improvement.

so, i'll go with this and flog the A55 mobo (didn't realise it didn't allow oc'ing or wouldn't have nabbed the A10-5800k-but least it was off the MM and a decent price too!)
