Is it worth selling on eBay these days.?

Thanks. Well I'm a member of my les Paul guitar forums, so il post in the for sale section there instead of eBay. I've sold an old Burny les Paul to a guy in Essex before. It's a cracking guitar but its just not getting played, and it deserves it. It comes in hard case so I'd just need a big box and tons of bubble wrap. I used ups in past and it all went smooth. I want a new bike for me and girlfriend and I seen a couple of beauty's at halfords, so this would raise the cash. Thanks for the help. : )

I'd post a pic but photo bucket isn't working like it used to lol

Sorry for the ignorance but how exactly are sellers being ripped off? I've sold maybe 20 items on eBay and never had a problem. The buyer pays via PayPal then I send ...

You'll eventually see, the second that guy send you an email "The item hasn't turned up, I want a refund!" you'll understand.

send things fully tracked and insured?

I would never send anything i sold on Ebay not signed for. Anything over £50 ish gets sent special delivery.

I sold my Gibson SG Menace on eBay for about £600 - Cost me about £15 to post.

Had no bother with it.

Sold it the the guitarist from ******* Brothers :)

You've answered your own question tbh. Buyer pays via Paypal. Says it didn't arrive/is broken when they swap it over for their one/etc.

PayPal side with the buyer and refund the buyer. You lose item and cash. It's so simple to defraud people via eBay I'm surprised it isn't on the news more often.

Yes, I sold 5 sings before I left the UK for Canada and I made about £700. It was annoying paying the eBay fees, but less annoying than dealing with **** on Craigslist and Gumtree.

Not read all the posts but don't know if it's been mentioned. PayPal is also 10% not sure that has a maximum like ebay

Delivery will be a lot more than £30 if you want it insured properly. With that sort of price make sure it is. That extra 10 could save you hundreds

Several times I've thought about selling more expensive items on ebay, but then looked into the fees and found it to be not worth the hassle.

For example I've recently sent my phone to Mazuma for £180, with them I get the money in my bank the next day by BACS... zero hassle.

Ebay charge a listing fee and then a final value fee which all in all is a little over 10%. Paypal will then want about 3-4% so I worked out is was going to cost me about £30. Selling on ebay would have got me a little more money, but not enough to make it worthwhile and risk the potential fraudsters.

Well thanks and I may try to sell it here too. But I've had a guy on my les Paul forums asking if I'd be interested in shipping to Germany. I would but he'd need to cover shipping and insurance of course. See what happens next.
