I'm looking for some bright white bulbs for that bi xenon look but at the same time don't dazzle the crap out of oncoming traffic.

I heard that Philips Diamond Visions are really good and have that pure white with bluey tint to them when you look straight at them.

Are they recommended?

Philips Blue Vision are the best Halogen bulbs IMHO. Slightly whiter than Nightbreakers. Won't look like Xenons though.

Depends what you mean by "recommended"?
If you want a light that has a "Hint of blue" rather than offering the best/most amount of light on the road (ya know, for safety reasons) then yes, up to the job.
All I can say is at least you're going this route and not those nasty aftermarket HID route - but I'd go for total light output over "HID look-a-likes" personally.

I'd recommend just getting the best halogens you can, IMO nothing makes a car look tackier/cheaper than a car with horrid blue lights that was never designed to have them.

If you have suitable projector beam lenses you have the option of retro-fitting an HID kit which would be your best option if you are looking for an increase in lighting performance.

But only if you have a suitable lens configuration. ;)

Thanks guys,

I have used HID kits before and I would again with these however I don't have projector headlamps anymore therefore I don't think it's suitable as it would give out the wrong beam pattern and dazzle oncoming traffic.

I just bought some Ring Automotive Xenon ultima bulbs and fitted them. They are still yellowy but with a nice tint of whiteness. They're meant to give out an extra 120% light though I can't test until it's dark.

Still not the colour I want so might end up getting some Philips diamond visions as they seem to give the best colour without sacrificing too much light output.

I know the whole "projector lenses" debate gets thrown around a lot, but what about bulbs like the D3R? They are xenons designed for reflector units are they not?

I would recommend the Philips Crystal Vision bulbs - little hard to find but really good WHITE bulbs. There isn't any blue in them at all.

I use them behind the projectors in my Smart and they are very close, OK right next to a set of Xenons they are very different but they are about as 'white' as I could find.

I've tried to look for bulbs like the D3R ones but there are none as far as im aware. I've ordered a set of Philips Diamond Vision after seeing the Ring Automotive lights are still quite yellow in comparison.

Will some pics up when they arrive next week :)

D2R are for a reflector which has been designed for D2R. In halogen reflectors although the shield on the bulb will block a bit of the glare-inducing light, they will still produce lots of glare as the arc is a different shape to a halogen filament.

As for recommended halogens, get some cheap 100w blue tinted bulbs off Ebay, take a fresh razor blade to them and remove the blue coating. Assuming your wiring loom is up to it and your lamp units can handle the extra heat these are the whitest & brightest bulbs I have found (in HB4 fitment anyway)

I thought about the 100w bulbs as the sales guy showed me some today but the worry of melting headlamps was enough to steer me away from them.

Also illegal, which might be a concern ;)
Although I suspect the chances of someone testing them are slim unless they're dazzling oncoming traffic.

I had those Xenon ultima bulbs and thought they were brilliant for halogens. Ended up going down HID route in the end as I have projectors. Could never go back to reflectors now but so many expensive cars without OEM xenons still have them :(

What you want is HIDs in projectors for the low beams, and some uprated halogen 'xenon look' bulbs for the high beams. I use Osram Night Breaker Plus, they're a closer match to the factory HIDs than the original bulbs and brighter too, but are still yellow in comparison to the HIDs... could probably swap them for some blue'er ones at the expense of a bit of brightness if I really wanted.

My mate just bought round some of his old bulbs, They have a blue tint to them on the glass bit itself. However my concern is they are rated at 80w!!!

Would the extra heat likely to melt the headlight casing or damage any of the wiring?

Still waiting for my Philips diamond vision 5000k bulbs.

Phillips Blue Vision Ultra bulbs for me. Noticed the purer white light instantly.

I haven't gone out in the dark yet since fitting my ring automotive xenon ultima bulbs, no idea how white they are! Will find out tonight though.

Were yours pure white light, no blue tint?

I would get HID's but the projector lights for my car cost a bomb and from what I've looked at its import only which is troublesome and may cost me even more. I had HID's before in my projector lights on my corsa D with the AFL option. They were good but not too bright I have to say in the dark
