Now this is a suprise if true.

I thought that Ket Lime Pie wouldnt be on many handsets other than the high end ones or phones release within the last year or so, but it seems that Google will be trying to get the OS on as many handsets as possible.

Article.

jb supports 'low end' as in devices with 512mb/ram so theres no reason not to have limepie on them when manufacturers still make those 'low end' devices.

I was just suprised as I know samsung have said for example the S2 will only go up to 4.2 JB and no higher.

I guess thats Samsungs decision rather than Googles.

yup :) im actually happy with the fact that samsung bothers with s2.. - im looking at you htc with one s and no sense 5 confirmed..

Latest news is that sense V5 or possibly 5.1 or maybe not even the full sense V5/5.1 version will be coming to the one s now (take with a pinch of salt as always) but I'll wait until that actually happens, these days with OEMs and android, you just can't trust any of them :o  Let alone their time frame given for updates.... Wasn't the GS 3 supposed to have received the 4.2.2/new touchwiz last month? Wasn't sony suppose to have updated the XZ to 4.2.2 as well by now? And same with HTC and the 4.2.2/5.1 update for the one???

Update area just sucks balls for android. Well done to apple for upgrading the iphone 4 (even if it doesn't contain all the new stuff)

As for KLP, I am not expecting any handsets apart from the following to receive it:

- GS 3, note II, GS 4, note III
- one X, XL, one, one mini and the larger/phablet one
- perhaps the razr phones and whatever new ones moto have
- xperia Z, ZL (in about 1-2 years time maybe???)

and of course the nexus devices

Even if google say it is optimised to support low end devices, the OEMs aren't going to bother with updating their lower end devices.

the amount of devices that have been abandoned due to "hardware not supporting it" (despite being a load of BS) and device being "too old" is ridiculous

that is one excuse that oems love to use.. imagine if all of them simply had stock android.. no delays no unexpected bugs nothing.. compile-update.. now it goes google-oem-touchviz/sense/etc - network turd - delay - delay - update reaches the device.. google needs to SORT IT OUT ASAP

I would love for Google to enforce a stock android policy. Manufacturers are forced to supply the option of having their 'optimised' Android experience, or revert to stock Android which receives updates from Google. Win win surely?

Wasn't that a rumored feature a while back? Google will ship KLP with the ability for carriers/manufacturers to apply their skins over the top. Means they could roll out core updates pretty quick regardless.

I was gonna leap all over you shouting "What about the 'Nexus' devices!!!"

Then I saw the last bit!! :D

At least cyanogenmod is there for many android devices, so people can always try that to see the latest features and then go back if they don't like it. Contrary to popular belief, rooting and installing custom rom isn't that difficult. Obviously, there is always a risk of bricking the device. on the whole, it's a fix for a problem that shouldn't exist. I blame carriers first and then OEM's then google themselves for letting others defecate their OS.

Ain't that the truth though I thought 4.2 for the GS3 and HTC One was due this month. You already know my thoughts on Sony - however I think it is just around the corner because it has been leaked as are loads of screens. "Shortly after release" - rofl!!

That's been rumoured since ICS was in the pipeline

I think there was a lot of confusion around ICS and "stock" experience.

Google enforced that if you released a build of android ICS+ it had to contain some of the core (stock) functions and assets of ICS so that apps were easier to make universal. In order to get gapps.

Chinese whispers turned this into "thou shalt only provide a stock experience".
