I managed to bag a free day at Rockingham on the ISSCC layout thanks to a BookaTrack competition on Facebook (being unproductive does pay off after all!). I've never driven there properly before so wasn't sure what to expect really, only that other Caterhams seem to go well there and I'd heard a lot of positive talk about the place. Well they weren't wrong and I absolutely loved driving there. The in-field section is great for a Caterham with relatively short blasts between the corners, and the banking adds quite a fun element to the lap too.

I did find it quite tricky to find reference points for braking though. Coming off the banking is ok and again into the final chicane thing, but everywhere else seemed much more difficult. I loved how much I could benefit from left-foot braking, I've never driven a circuit with so many places I could do that without needing to change gear too. Really enjoyed dancing the car into the apexes on the brake and throttle, great fun!

Just felt so relaxed during the whole day, really helped enjoy myself more than usual. Even had a great battle with a new Supersport racer, very very close lapping indeed!

I wasn't exactly chasing lap times but did get some consistent low 1:40 laps in at the end of the day which I'm fairly happy with. Couple of places I could have braked a bit later or more aggressively but I'm not happy with the left/right balance on the front axle at the moment. Here's a quick vid of my 4 quickest laps :)

Cheers! :)

Looks awesome!
I had a couple of experience things for my 40th a mate was also 40 close to my birthday, we did the oval in the morning and we both did the lambo later on.
Fantastic day, I'd love a blast round the whole track in a caterham :)

the winter that never ended
Ridiculous wasn't it? I only did about 3000 miles in the past year. Get back out there!

Good skills! The Caterham looks really balanced.
Cheers! It's nicely set up now, just a few niggles and compromises I have to live with. Not quite happy with the brake balance on the front axle, suspect one of the calipers may need a rebuild. It loves to turn in on the brakes, lots of fun steering with brakes and throttle :D
