This is looking good - 8 cores and ddr4 support :)

Let’s speculate performance, Haswell-E, owing to 2 more cores (4 more threads) compared to the upcoming Ivy Bridge-E platform, and taking in all architectural enhancements into consideration, should perform between 33-50% better (best case scenario) than the 2013 enthusiast platform. Finally, a real new performance part by Intel. Of course, this won’t be a game changer as AMD continues to be virtually non-existent in competing with Intel on CPU performance (and that scenario will most likely not change in the near future as well, we’re talking AMD Steamroller here).

Was literally just thinking this morning that H-E would be a complete waste of time as they don't have the iGPU that is the only real big improvement over IB. But two extra cores, nice.

Big cost increase over AMD's 8-cores though if you make use of all the threads.

I'm skipping Ivy Bridge-E so if Haswell-E is a socket 2011 CPU I'll probably end up getting that (assuming the BIOS of my motherboard is updated to run it).

Given the price of a decent x79 system, we should start saving now. As the socket size stays the same hopefully they'll spread the cores out internally over a wider area to help heat dissipation.

Haswell-E is a socket 2011 or more precisely 2011-3 cpu so it won't fit on the existing x79 boards. Afaik it will be coming with new 2011-3 motherboards

Bah.

Ah well my computer is fast enough for my current needs. I'll have to make a decision once I know how much faster these chips will be and if they overclock as well as the 3930k.

I'm hoping the x99 chipset will have sata express. Gonna have to sell a kidney for the platform and cpu though.

Honestly why would anyone get a ivybridge e now?

Why wouldn't they? Haswell-E is another year away and perfomance stats are all speculation. SB-E is here now and is upgradeable to Ivy-E in a couple of months. Holding off for 10 months for a new platform/chipset is crazy for enthusiasts. They want the best now. If Haswell-E delivers what is speculated, enthusiasts will jump over regardless of the cost.

so you're saying you would upgrade to ivy-e from your 3930k?

i was going to upgrade my i7 3820 to IB-E but now i know haswell-e will be socket 2011 and is only a year away there is absolutely no reason to do now. i will wait for the octacore goodness

The article in the OP looks like pure speculation for example intel not having a quad core Haswell-E CPU.

I not only think there will be a quad but that it will also be one of intel's biggest sellers on the platform.

As to 8 cores, if intel want to they will have plenty of opportunity to slip in an IB-E part next year.
