Ripping movies to Google Nexus 7

Maybe there's something wrong with the source file that it doesn't like. Do you have another you can test?

I've tried several 24 discs. All of them scan in fine but the encode stops at the same place.

Tried encoding on my laptop and it doesn't even recognise the source.

I'm going to try some other programs. Need to get this file size down

Just a quick question, are you trying to use Handbrake to rip and convert from the source DVD ?

For speed I use winxdvd to rip a single mpeg right out the dvd as a master copy - then I use handbrake to convert to the various sources I want to use.

For ease and simplicity then, i highly recommend you consider a 1 button solution like the one i posted earlier (same as I use).
With its constant updates etc its the only one I have found that will consistently do Disney stuff & can't say its ever had an issue with any discs.

handbrake ripping from DVD source is no good m8, never had any success doing it that way myself.

I've purchased the program you suggested. It's working a treat. Files are 400mb each and slightly better quality. They're old DVDs (2001) so the quality isn't going to be brilliant, it's grainy in parts but perfectly watchable.

Cheers

I still have a copy of DVD-Shrink that I use, leaving the ripped file(s) at 100% (ripping to a folder not an ISO), and then shove this/them through Handbrake!

Never had a problem creating a .mp4 that way for my Nexus 7 using the same settings as mentioned above! :D

Glad it worked out for you, i hate to buy stuff what you can mostly get for free - but as you say i also don't mind buying something that 'just works'.

I use it about 3-4 times per week, so for me the ease and speed of it made sense in the long run - plus its the only consistent way I found to backup/rip Disney DVD's to protect them from the kids :)

I've always found "Any Video Converter" an excellent tool.

The free version does an excellent job of converting between the majority of formats, it's really simple to use, seems fast (it can use CUDA for x264 encoding) and it has a good set of profiles for different devices such as tablets and phones.

Not as much control as Handbrake I imagine, but it's not really the same tool (though it could be used to do the same thing as Handbrake I suppose).

I don't mind paying for things if it's going to save me time. I was spending too long messing around with Handbrake without results. This does the job.

I'm leaving everything at default with the slider set in the middle of 'Fast' and 'Slow'. Encoding a 45min file is taking around 20-22 minutes. Is that an average speed would you say? Is there anything I can do to speed things up a bit perhaps?

Thanks for the other software suggestions too.

seems a bit slow to me tbh, i only have a 2500K and rip as a single Mpeg in under 5mins, then about 10mins for re-encode into small format.
