**** The Official Superman - Man Of Steel Discussion Thread ****

just seen it - i liked it, but it did need a lot more characterisation. A lot of the early stuff was quite haphazardly slapped together.
but a solid 8/10 for me.

I really, really, want to see it. I need to find the right time to though!

Really puzzled by the RT rating, especially when you consider that other films that are much worse are getting higher ratings on their system. Anyway, I will just judge it for myself as I have disagreed with critics before.

Pretty much the same rating on Metacritic, so it's not so much RT's system, more like many critics just don't like it. Probably the lack of humour and what flaws the film has resulted in an average scores from many of them.

Well that was disappointing, basically an Avengers rip-off with none of the heart you really need to see within Superman to understand that him just being practically invincible isnt the whole of the story. Thats the bit you have to get right in Superman above all else otherwise you just cant connect with him...

Good action film I guess, poor script though and poor realisation of Krypton (Matrix much?), really wish they spent much more time pre-Superman while he was in Smallville and finding himself/his purpose...

Oh well least it was better than IM3

I think we agreed on pretty much everything regarding this film :D

Yeah the 3D adds absolutely nothing. I really need to stop letting my friends convince me to go see 3D films with them...

well I am an absolute sucker for anything new and shiny.

I bought into 3D when it first came out, and have owned 3 3D TVs over the last couple of years....I even own 100 3D BluRays.

Let me be totally honest. 3D is all but dead. There hasn't been any wow factor since it first launched. Avatar still remains the best 3D movie....and let's be honest, it's not even THAT good in 3D.

Superman was a joke in 3D.

LOL thats an essay, yeah I think people are easily distract by bang wallop rather than be aware what makes Superman Superman and that film wasnt Superman. There so many silly issues that theres far too numerous to list, for example, they were grown for a purpose yet Jar-El, a scientist, can whip General Zods arse? Just LOL...

Exactly the same thing happened with the latest Die Hard, but the crap sells and people, looking at this thread, lap it up, so you cant blame them for making these films...

Was lucky enough to go to the premiere the other night after working on the red / blue carpet beforehand.

Mr Cavill introduced the film at Empire Leicester Sq

My neck hurt by the end! (as will yours after looking at my pic :D ) I went to see it again at a press screening on the Thursday and all in all it's a massively entertaining blockbuster. Unfortunately, character development is palmed off for the massive action scenes but they do look bloody amazing.

We've also just been told how it's doing at the box office but that's confidential for now :)

7.5/10 for me.

I'll give a film credit if it deserves it. This however I felt was a total let down.

I felt it was a really poor movie and I am very disappointed.

The whole Scfi thing ruined it. Didnt feel like Superman at all. Felt like Superman joined the avengers but the avengers didnt get the memo.

Scene from scene rushed like I couldnt believe.

The bad guy was bloody awful. Amy Adams didnt work for me either.

The guy as Superman played his part well but thats the limit of my satisfaction.

I had really high hopes for this.
5/10

I saw it this morning and really enjoyed it. It was actually the lack of humour that made it a better movie for me. This is supposed to be hard hitting with death - there isn't really any room for humour.
Well acted and generally felt on a high as I came out.
Even managed to get some emotion out of me.

When Jonathan Kent was killed that actually almost got me. I know the story, I knew he would die - but the moment it came and circumstance and his telling Clarke "no" almost managed to bring a tear to the eye despite the fact I had no real connection with him

Hope this is the start of at least a trilogy.

Another meh from me. I felt little to no connection with the characters and the entire second half was a good lesson in how not to pace a movie. It should have been called 'superman: everything blew up'. Casting wise Cavill was pretty good, but everyone else was a cardboard cutout. There was one part that stood out because it actually touched on what makes Superman an interesting character
when that guy started on him in the cafe and he ended up trashing his lorry
but the rest was pretty generic scifi (I was getting strong Highlander 2 and He-Man the movie vibes) mixed with stuff blowing up. Great effects and action scenes, though.

6/10 (+1 for the unintentionally funny hand signals Russell Crow used to shut doors)
