I have just bought a used car...however i do not have a full driving license... I would ideally like to be the legal owner and have another name as the legal keeper of the vehicle as they will be the one driving for now.

How do i go about getting this sorted? what forms/contacts would i need? I have never delved into this before and am rather confused

You already are the legal owner of the car since you bought it. Just get someone else to be the registered keeper on the V5C. I suppose you don't want to be the RK for insurance purposes? I'm not sure if that's the best route though.

So if i register the car on the V5C to my girlfriends name then I still own the car?

I need her to be the keeper for insurance reasons (otherwise Tesco wont insure her) until iv passed my test. Is it easy to change the name of the registered keepr into my name once im driving...or is that not wise

Yes. Ownership doens't change. The DVLA just want to know who the registered keeper is rather than owner.

You can do, just requires you to send the V5C off to the DVLA with the new keeper details. The car will have an extra keeper on the V5 is that bothers you though. It seems to bother some people if you come to sell the car.

Thank you so much for your help :)

That is why I think it'd be unwise as people will only see an extra user/driver.

I'm just worried that if things went sour she wouldnt be walking away with two grands of car i paid for....

Only minor downside (and depends on the car, etc.) is that the number of previous owners will increase when you change the registered keeper to your GF and back again so adding two further owners on.

Edit: doh as previously mentioned.
