Mottephobia - anyone successfully conquered it?

google your local hypnotherapist, explain the phobia, make sure they do cash back if its unsuccessful.

Lad at work had a bad moth phobia, to the point we'd say moth and he'd be gone screaming down the other end of the office. 3 sessions under hypnosis and he's fine now.

A woman I know is scared to death of moths, butterflies and birds.

If a bird is on the path where she wants to walk she crosses over.

Or if her little girl is with the daughter runs in front to shoo the bird away and says "its alright mummy they've gone now"

Good idea, never considered hypnotherapy. Thanks. :)

Weird, you will consider hypnotherapy but haven't even commented on the tried & trusted method of my post.

I've only recently started thinking I really need to do something about this as summer nights are becoming unbearable unless I have all the windows closed.

My first port of call will be CBT through my GP, but I won't rule out other methods. :)

i don't get phobias :( - as in i don't actually "GET" them.. i just can't understand how someone can be SO scared of something.. unless it literally ripped their legs off..

I'm nearly 35 and I'm still afraid of the dark. No I don't believe that monsters or ghosts will come out and get me when it's dark. I'm afraid of the dark because I get images / trips related to a condition called Synaesthesia. I have to have a little bit of light e.g. having the landing light on.

Don't you also suffer from having virtually no vision?
(or is that somebody else?)

Ah, another synaesthete. Mine's not as severe as that but I react to certain genres of music quite strongly and have ASMR too.

It isn't a rational fear, if it was rational then there wouldn't be the fear..So if you haven't got a phobia then you wont 'get' it.

I can definitely sympathise with the OP - I wouldn't say I'm mottephobic(Is this even a word?) but moths have a tendency to freak me out to the extent I can't fall asleep when I know one is in the house.

It's funny, I'm not bothered by spiders or creepies in general but I really dislike moths - the look of them and the noise makes my hair stand on end *shudder*

Nothing to fear

I know, after all they do guard and protect the Earth.

Wow, another Syn on OcUK?! That's awesome. Shall we start our own thread on here so not to hijack the discussion on moths? I would really love to compare notes as I haven't written to many of our kind yet and I haven't met one for real yet either. I have the coloured-hearing version which is the most common version. I see colour when I hear musical notes and my memory is stored as colour (colours for each letter and number). With the above fear of the darkness, when there is no sound or light stimulus, my synaesthesia isn't as controlled so I start seeing shapes and colours and that induces fear.

I see 2cm unaided and 2M with a correctional lens, 1 eye only as the other eye is artificial. In real life situations, I can see the computer screen fine being near-sighted but I have problems crossing roads and recognising people. Supermarkets rearranging their shelves is a nightmare too because I rely more on memory than sight.
