ISPs to include porn filters as default in the UK by 2014

I think the word 'Education' is the key to a lot of problems.

I think that there needs to be more put in to educating children, rather than trying to stop them seeing things that people feel they shouldn't see.

At least it sounds like a tick box when you sign up. Rather than that's just the way it is, phone us to chnage it.
Not great though. It should be the other way a check box to check to enable filter, rather than a check box to disable filter.
Use unblock-us anyway, so doubt their blocks would work anyway.

Look outside your little world, some parents don't know what an ISP is, how their router works, how the internet works or anything about PCs how are they meant to be able to install and monitor software when they wouldn't know the first the thing about it all.

So that is their problem, not our problem.

There also needs to to be more put into educating the government. Borderline retards running the country at the moment.

ATM? Governments are always inherently bad. It's just which poop smells less nasty, it's not like you actually like poop, it's just some are marginally better than others.

OK fine but imagine you have a daughter, you have restricted her access and she is a decent person with boundaries and values, she's 15 and meets a 16 year old boy who's never had any restrictions on what he's seen and wants to to replicate what he has seen totally uncensored or limited, is that OK with you?

I agree, but Governments tend to base themselves and their policies on ideologies, no matter how out dated.

If you brought your daughter up well, i would hope she's capable of 1) saying no and 2) recognising idiots

She's 15 and that would be underage anyway. So I probably wound't be happy.
Also, if she was 16 I wouldn't give a crap as it would be her decision.

Anyway this is an appeal to emotion, because you probably wouldn't care if it was someone elses daughter.

at end of day why do people want the internet controlled ?

its for money and piracy mainly. this is just a step to try and stop that .

I would hope that I would have raised my children up well enough that they would be able to say no and to have the ability to spot idiots.

First it'll be porn, then what? Political free speech? People who don't like Whites/Blacks/Muslims?

Will computer games be next? I mean Witcher 2 pretty much is softcore porn. :D

The magnificence of the internet is in the uncensored nature of the beast, you can say what you want to who you want (Within reason) and its down to YOUR self if you read it or not.

This isn't to stop that, porn isn't illegal.
Some aspects should be controlled, that's part and parcel of civilisation online or offline. But this and other schemes are over the top and the people wanting no control our over the top on the other end of the spectrum.
