2 x 7850 1gb in crossfire

Depends on the resolution and game as higher you go the more it needs 2gb or more onboard ram but I'd say around a 7950 to 7970.
But all that goes out the window if the game needs over 1gb VRAM.

Actually i believe 2x7850 are slightly faster than a stock 7970 assuming good scaling.

Yea I took in to account the 1gb ram as it's going to dip a bit right game dependent.

2x 7850 2gb is defo 7970+ territory.

2 7850's is a pretty good setup if they were the 2gb cards.

Better off selling the 1gb card now and maybe purchasing a single 7950 or a 670 as ocuk and other sites have them dirt cheap!!!

Thanks for the advice all, I was just curious.
I've always fancied xfire or sli, just wondered if it made much difference, it definetly seems so. Im still waiting for the GTX760 before I choose a card, not long now :)

I had 2 x 7850 2gb (XFX) in crossfire before going to a single 7950 (WF3).

To be honest the 2 7850s (@1000 or @950) were only marginally faster than my 7950 (@1150 or @1200) in only a few limited applications and if you are bothered about benchmark scores you could see a difference in the scores. My XFX cards were not very good clockers and I cannot recommend XFX cards again. Noisy and hot cards, compared to the Gigabyte 7950.

Some of the time games didn't scale very well (far cry 3 being the biggest issue for me, the cards were only working 50-60%) and the single 7950 is definitely better in that particular game.

At stock the 7950 is noticeably slower at times, but if you are prepared to overclock the 7950 to 1150+ then in gaming I doubt you would notice a difference, except maybe +/- 5 fps, and that is assuming you have not got any scaling issues.

Personally I prefer the single card setup now with the 7950. My opinion is that SLI or crossfire is only worth it with the top end cards to reach performance over and above the fastest single card. If your crossfire/SLI setup is with mid/low end cards and there is a single GPU option giving similar performance then the single GPU setup is a no brainer for me.

Always factor in with SLI/Crossfire the point that if the application does not support 2 cards, can just one of your cards cut it alone until the drivers/game is updated to run with SLI/Crossfire. I was finding with the 2 7850s when crossfire it didn't work, one card alone or poor scaling was barely enough for the game settings and fps I was after.

That's great thanks very much for the in depth reply. It's nice to hear the problems it always helps to make the decision easier, definitely a single card for me then.

So 2 x 1gb cards dont make 2gb? I know its a noob question sorry :)
Oh and what are 2 x 6770's equavilent of? Other than old lol

Yes, unfortunately 2 x 1gb = 1gb, or 4 x 2gb = 2gb.

Two 6770's will be roughly equal to a 7850 (maybe with a small overclock).
