Do your work colleagues understand your geekiness

As title really.
Except conversations about the patients or ward based issues.
I have nothing in common with any of my colleagues (I dont like humans so that's fine

).
When people ask what I like to do in my spare time they just look perplexed when I say I like browsing the internet and looking at forums, these are the same people who think only facebook and ebay exist on the internet.

When I say I hate shopping, Id sooner sit in a dark room playing pc games either by myself or with Mr Seabiscuit I usually a barrage of almost insults and am told I am weird.

So my question is, are you on the same wavelength as your colleagues or are you the black sheep of your workplace?

You work in the wrong place, but I guess girls who prefer gaming and internet fourms to shopping and gossip are pretty are so in any work place you would struggle to find like minded ladies.

I once said to my my boss that it was amusing that the ultra mega highly confidential super secret document we had been given was in comic sans.

It turns out it's not universally amusing.

Most of them to an extent. But i work in the technical department of an engineering company, which helps.
They generally know what I'm on about, but prehaps think I'm a little strange when i tell them I build PID controllers at home for fun.

I had to sit through a presentation from management where they'd used Comin Sans in the PowerPoint slides.

It actually caused me physical pain. I had to sit in a dark room looking at Helvetica Neue for half hour after work just to cleanse the dirtiness I felt.

Aye I suppose going round to your collegues in a hospital saying you like games that mean ya kill people will appear strange I guess.

I saw a danger of death notice on a substation written in comic sans a while back. I might go see if it's still there to get a picture.

A little bit with the people I work directly with, but its an IT company so there are no shortage of us weirdos.

The last place I worked (programming company) it was the other way around and everyone was massively geeky, it made me look normal!

No because I'm not really a geek. I enjoy technology but I'd rather be out and about then be on a pc playing games

Whenever when I do something clever in excel or show them plex on my phone streaming from home they're blown away. So perhaps to them I am a geek.

I'm definitely the "black sheep"

I just had a discussion with everyone in the office, and let slip that I religiously watch every tech conference I can to keep ahead with technology...

It only becomes slightly uncomfortable when having to explain to your peers why your costume has a tail and you're holding Sonic fanfic in one hand and your **** in the other.

I had a similar moment a couple of months back when I started talking about new technologies on TED or new theories in the social sciences from RSA talks.

my geek side is securely tucked away, and under control. sort of like bruce banner.

I wouldn't class browsing the internet as a hobby. It's something I do to pass the time, or if I need to find something, normally related to a hobby.

e.g. I wonder if I could hook up my raspberry pi to a temp controller and fan to regulate the temps of the BBQ over long periods *Googles*
