Brake parts to pagid? or not to pagid?

Right guys and gals, the discs and pads on the ole mito are due soon. It'll probably be ok for its MOT on Friday with what it has (opinion of guys at local alfa specialist) but I've probably not got too long left on them. I noticed I could get hold of all 4 discs and matching pads for <£160 on CP4L which I was impressed with as I was expecting it to be a lot more considering the 4 pot brembos on the front. Now to the question. They're pagid parts. Now I know historically they've been well regarded but lately I've seen threads dotted around suggesting they're not as good as they used to be (here and elsewhere). So I figured I'd ask here with there being a lot of different car users here what your opinions are on current pagid products and whether you'd go for the pagid parts or going for something else. If you'd go for something else then what brand/type would you go for? I believe my current pads are OE spec ferodos but squeak like mad.

I'm not really on a budget per se and will spend what needs to be spent to get them all good for the next however long. Only for road usage so no track days planned or anything.

I've fitted Pagid discs and pads to a Fiesta and a Focus with no problems at all. They looked good quality to me, and they're made by TMD Friction who also make Mintex and Textar parts, amongst others and I've never had any problems with those either.

The Pagid parts EuroCarParts sell are made specifically for them and they have exclusivity on the Pagid brand in the UK. Whether this means there's a bit of badge engineering going on I don't know.
 
Any oem spec part will do, so just go for what ever is cheapest unless you track day or drive like a bell end on public roads.

Ebay special are a no no but oem will be 100% fine.

To be road legal all brake pads need to be R90 spec which pretty much levels the field as to how good or bad a pad can be stopping wise, cheaper stuff might not last as long and cheaper discs might wear a bit more (so can expensive discs cough EBC cough).

Tyre on the other hand.... Well IMO that is a market that needs some tougher regulations.

Doesn't work like that at all, cheap pads are totally crap. The low end ECP stuff is good enough for one hard stop from 70 and that's about your lot, any spirited driving will cook them fast. Good enough for your grandmas shopping car though I guess.

They seem to come in cheaper than Pagid and are good quality. I have their discs on the S2000 at the moment.


They seem to be more expensive for me and don't have the pads I need in stock either. I'll bare them in mind for future purchases however.

Clarkey, this is the point behind my asking of the question, where is that line between cheap rubbish and decent quality? I looked online and Pagid seem fine for OEM grade stuff according to reviews. The OEM setup I find is more than adequate on a small car like the mito so don't fancy splashing out on super expensive track discs and pads which I'll never see the benefit in. Just something that'll match what was on there to begin with as that has held up fine for what I used it for.

As I said if you are not doing trackdays or driving silly any oem spec pad will be fine.

OP if you call your local motor parts firm and ask for some prices on oem spec brakes you should be fine.

Edit: Just to be clear, I know decent more expensive brakes are night and day different when it comes to repeat stops and fade etc... But in an emergency or day to day situation pretty much any disk pad combo will stop you when needed. I would say the more dangerous pads and discs would be the track-day stuff I.e ds2500 RC6 etc... Due to the cold performance, especially when people have added ducting etc... The cheapest oem brakes will stop you when needed but the cheapest tyres won't was my point.

if youre buying from ecp buy ATE pads. i dont think anyone has ever had issues with ATE parts, but lots of people seem to have had issues with Pagid pads, me included
 
Pagid motorsport stuff, very good. RS29 pads for example!

Pagid value, no thank you, heard the pads are useless, disc ok though.
 
was going to be ECP stuff but I'm coming away from that idea now. Brembo do some OEM stuff at a reasonable price for all but my rear discs (twice the price of fronts :confused: ) so I'll probably opt for them and just grab the rear discs from ECP. I'll also have a word with my local alfa specialist and see what they can get in and what they recommend and work out what to do from there. Cheers guys.
 
Pagid discs from ECP are fine, i have them fitted to the front of my car combined with monoblock 4 pot brembos and i have 0 issues, the disc material is high quality and the hub finish stays looking new for a very long time.

Pagid blue brake pads are fine for daily driving, they bite well from cold and will haul you from 70 to a dead stop without bursting into flames.

Unless you plan on spanking it down a country lane on a regular basis buy the pagid stuff from ECP.

Agreed, they have an anti corrosion coating, fitted pagid gear all round inc pads on the 330i improved braking massively, seem fine but as mentioned they throw out a **** ton of dust.
 
I have regular Pagid discs on mine but I don't find their "regular" (OEM replacement, sold by ECP) pads as good as Ford OEM pads.

Do you use just the vented discs or the ones that are grooved and cross drilled?

The prices are brilliant, the grooved type for my car are less than the standard so I would be interested on the quality.
