FAO Fox: Buying a E39 530i Sport

Any idea what box is in a 2003 (pre facelift) E53?

Just read codes on my friends box:

His car is entering the transmission limp-home mode. (Locks into a single gear, possibly third, I think).

The GM clutches are solid, he would have noticed a slipping TC which is the usual issue with them lot.

ZF the TC seal breaks and stays off, people don't notice this until it starts going into limp mode and has cooked the tranny.

This is all complete guessing though!

Creaking rear suspension on a tourer with air bags? Any ideas? If I'm gonna keep it I'm not driving around in a creaking timber battleship.

Re: my creaking front doors.

Dropping the front windows a couple of mm does cure the issue but not a fix I'm comfortable with.

It's clearly not the hinges.

Oddly, the passenger front door on my last A4 creaked and rattled mainly when it was wet. The symptoms went away if I opened the window a few mm, it turned out to be the door seal that was causing the creaking.

I have some teflon tape which I've had great results with in the past so going to try some of that on the door aperture I think.

Are the seals rubber at the top? My E46 creaks from time to time but my seals are rubber so a bit of Gummipfledge (sp?) fixes it.

Anybody have first hand experience of bleeding the 530i cooling system?

Replaced my cracked fan shroud and spilt a bit of coolant in the process.

I turned the ignition to position 2 and turned the climate control to maximum heat which caused the aux./electric water pump to kick in.

I then topped up the coolant tank and opened the bleed valve near the thermostat housing and then the one on top of the tank. All the time with this electric pump running.

Added about a litre of coolant so seemed about right. I'll check it every morning (cold engine) for the next few days too.

Pretty much exactly how I did mine on my 330, except I had the engine running. I haven't had any troubles since :) I did have a tiny bit of air left in the system when I re-checked the next morning but nothing major at all.

It's the top of the door seal rubbing on the frame. Dropping the window stops it as it relieves the pressure.

Spray it with gummipfledge.

The only other thing I do/did when doing a full flush is to get the car running and stat open, open the cap (so obviously don't do this when it's very hot) so you can see the return feed dripping back down into the expansion tank then squeeze the bottom hose a few times to try and force any last bits of air out. You'll see the stream hiccup significantly if there's lots of air in the system.
