So I had my phone stolen

Contacted O2 who blocked the phone and black listed it.

So when they say 'black listed' does that mean the phone cannot be used anymore and is basically a doorstop? Or could the thief sell it on and someone could put a new sim in and use it.

Sucks :(
Insurance?

Black listed means it cannot be used within the UK afaik, from what I was told they can still be used in other countries tho.

May I ask about the situation surrounding it being stolen? Was it taken from you at knife-point for example? Were you pick-pocketed? Was it stolen from your car/home/place of work?

Its not really a constructive question, just me being curious. Of course i'll understand if you don't want to answer :)

I had my phone taken at knife-point in London before. It was pretty scary to be honest, I got cornered by three 'hoodies' on BMX's with flip-knives just outside a multi-storey car-park. :(

Aside from blocking the sim and bothering a passer by for their phone so I could ring the police, I didn't pursue it further as it was only worth about £30 and didn't contain much in the way of personal details - Plus I had a spare phone at home and no credit anyway. Luckily they didn't get my card or cash which were in my back pocket, so I went to the pie shop as planned and had the worst meal of my life. (I dont know if it was just that shop, but my god I didn't know pie, mash and mushy peas could taste so awful) :D

Seconded (or thirded) about using cerberus. Probably not much you can do with losing your phone if it leaves the country, but if its still over here you can/should track it.

Its a very scarey bit of software with what you can do with it.....as Morocco Mole found out. :)

Sure,

I was at the Download festival this weekend and while I was asleep he came into my tent and took my phone and wallet. :( Targeted several other tents and did the same thing.

:(

Always sleep with that stuff in your sleeping bag with you/under your pillow (if you have one) etc at a festival Thundy :)

Wouldn't really help if your a deep sleeper, put a padlock on the zips of your tent ;)

It would because I doubt most thieves would go rummaging around inside someone's sleeping bag or under their pillow. They won't know if you're a deep sleeper or not.

Padlocks and zips can be easily worked around (quite litterally) with a knife (or indeed anything sharp enough to cut the tent.

Indeed.

I need to learn from my mistakes. So angry with myself mate.......only got myself to blame.

I wouldn't go blaming yourself too much, it was ultimately down to the thieving scum that took it.

It's a shame that things are at a point where you actually have to take such things into consideration when you are sleeping in your own tent :(

Saw this in the DL thread, total ball ache dude. Thieves were rife this year at DL, RIP got hit several times. They were camped out in a field over the back, bunking the fences and walking around like they were bona fide campers.

Couple near us had their tents slashed and stuff nicked, *******. I hope they caught them.

Hope you manage to get everything sorted with your device/security with the minimal of fuss matey.

Last time I went to anywhere like that I left my nice shiny smart phone at home and took a crappy Nokia. One mate even got a money box thing and berried it into the ground. Pretty extreme but did the job.

All my Android phones run Cerberus now as it does a very good job at protecting my phone, only passwords are my facebook, gmail and hotmail everywhere else is set not to remember.

Cheers man,

Got a link to that thread please? EDIT: Ignore, found it. :(

Cheers man.

That what I find frustrating, they knew I would do that and make the phone unusable. :(

Easy to strip the imei number if you have the kit. A so called black listed iphone5 will still fetch £300 so not really a doorstop if the phone is half good.

Also imei blocks are UK only so selling abroad is another option

Its a Floored system...

Sorry for ya loss. Happened to me and its a pain.... Normally first thing they do is turn em off and then factory wipe so I suspect data wise you will be OK

Installed and paid for Cerberus just before I went to IoW Music Festival this weekend just gone.

Will always use Cerberus on any phone I buy in the future, it's features are truly great.

Would definitely recommend it to anybody with Android (dunno if it works on iOS/Windows etc)
