Back to AMD but might be going back?

Can't say you're wrong there yet I've been reading this thread in the background for no other reason than enjoying FatRakoon's posting style/wording which I'm almost riveted to....Unique is the only word I can describe & the posts make me smile :) ;)

You're absolutely right - there is something almost addictive about FatRakoon's posts and i'm thoroughly enjoying this thread.

Update. Its been a while

I have just bought new bits.

AMD - Gone Sabretooth and a new 8350 CPU
Intel - Gone XEON for a kick cos I want dual CPU. Utterly ridiculous I know but I dont care. Solitaire here I come.

AMD is definitely giving me issues... Even the new one seems to hang its windows a lot while I never have any such issues with intel.

So, this AMD fan is now turned to the dark side, I feel for good.

It was a bit silly though buying another 8350 wasn't it? I think that's what Richdog meant in his post. We know the original 8350 is fine, otherwise it wouldn't work with Linux, so it seems pointless spending money on another. It almost sounds like there is some sort of lack of power going on with the chip though, as though it's getting stuck in Cool N Quiet mode or something like that.

Have you been using the 8 pin CPU connector with the better boards to see if it makes any difference? Maybe it simply isn't getting the power it needs.

I have never seen my style as anything other than what it is!

Sure, I do tend to simply type things as they come into my head, but thats mostly because Im mental.

But like it or not, Im open and honest and I say things as they are

The thing is that I originally had the 8350, but no mobo. My MA78 Mobo has the 2.6 Hex core and that did not run the 83500 ( Not a problem )

So, I bought a 970 Mobo ( That did have the 4 pin but the CPU simply wasnt being quick enough.

My mate had a 3.2 Hex core but with a 990 Mobo

So, I swapped those bits over, but the 990 mobo was no better than the 970, plus, 2 of the RAM slots didnt like my RAM.

Now, I posted up about some of this previously, and someone said about the Sabretooth mobo, so, I decided to get that to try.

The thing is, that knowing me, I would now have a Gigabyte 990 Mobo but no CPU and so that why I decided to also splash out on another CPU.

This would let me experiment on comparing the Asus Sabretooth and the Gigabyte 990 as both will have the same CPU and the same RAM ( 2xGskill RipJaw )

Im like that... A touch Mental

The thing is, that they both perform absolutely 100% the same, but... And this is a big But ( pardon? ), but, the gigabyte will ONLY do 2 RAM slots, the Asus does 4, and the gigabyte does NOT hang or pause certain apps, the Asus does all the time

Irritatingly, my favourite Motherboard that I currently own is actually an old Gigabyte P55-USB3 and thats an old 1156 setup with an 860 and again, only 2 slots work on that, so its only got 8GB ( only? ) but as a workhorse, it has NEVER given be one single hint that it will hang in any way... Sure, its gets slower as you add more tasks ,and thats only to be expected, but NEVER does it hang.

As a comparison, the AMD in the ASUS Sabretooth shoots off like a rocket, and does task 1 like a rocket, task 2, 3 and 4 again possibly like a rocket and then all of a sudden, task "X" whatever becomes unresponsive, and hangs until another task finishes, and then the hung app suddenly springs back into life and shoots off ... Like a rocket! - this is bloody annoying. Especially when my 2 best AMDs are the fastest you can get and compared to my 6 year old I7 that my daughter now uses to do at most, YouTube videos, are simply useless in comparison.

The 3.2 Hexcore is flawless however and thats now in the 970Mobo and the 2.6 Hex core in the Asus MA78 I have given to my mate. The other PC simply all work so no need to talk about them.

Anyway, once again Im waffling so, I'll ST?U
