Gap in MOT - Should I be worried?

Hi guys,
this is sort of a follow on from my spec me thread here a couple of months ago and have finally had chance to view a couple of cars*.

One that we have spotted is <yet another> Polo, but the 1.6 105ps "Sport" (ha!). It only has 30K on a 07 at just shy of £5k. It satisfies my spec sheet of age/mileage + marginal overtaking ability -at least as much as a 1.6/100ps could do.

Anyway, I digress. I noticed on the logbook that it last had a service in 2010 albeit with only ~2000 less than its current mileage. Today I did an online MOT check and it revealed it had an MOT in 2010, 2012, 2013 but not 2011. Mileage checks out between tests and Mytextcheck seems happy.
I'm wondering that perhaps the vehicle was sorn/unused for a year - maybe a second car, but obviously a few alarm whispers whispered.

So gents, a couple of questions:
- Should I be worried about the gap in the MOT or am I being a bit tinfoil hat?
- Does anyone have an opinion of the 1.6/105 Sport?* It seems quite a rare car.

*From the test drive it seemed much like the focus 1.6/115ps I also drove that day but was immaculate inside and out albeit smaller. Lacked the Quickclear windscreen of the focus but added 4x disk breaks over the 2x disk,2x drum of the Focus.

Thanks guys.

Meh... mine frequently misses the MOT; not by design, but I move and file all the paperwork so then forget when it's due and only get it done when it's time to pay the tax again.

I wouldn't worry about it too much; unless you can see it had a massive fail in 2010 and took until 2012 to pass and be put back on the road.

Check out the service history they say it has around 2011. I wouldn't be too bothered though If it's passed two since.

Thats one of the issues- last service was in 2010 when it had an MOT, next mot being in 2012.

Thanks for the replys btw. :)

My 7 year old car has two big gaps in MOT's. I took it off the road as I had operations that didn't allow me to drive.

Could be a reason like mine, or somebody losing their job etc.

Mine second car is current off the road with no mot, could be the case? Would explain the low miles too. Ask them?

If I was viewing your car to buy it and you told me that I would walk away. There are enough used card out there to avoid the ones whose owners forget to MOT them. What else do they forget?

I'd ask what the reason was for the gap. Maybe it had been SORN'd for a while? I wouldn't worry about it if it can be explained.

I'd be more worried about the last service being in 2010.

If any concerns then walk away and look at another car. They are quite common.

Is it really that hard to remember?

Mine's a 23-year old grey import, so you'll get no service history either... but you won't find that many other like it.

...and I'd forget to tell you quite a few things about it. ;)

I've never had anyone ask me about the MOT history of a car I've sold; other than the odd question about the last MOT.
