So, this guy has been jailed for refusing to cover up contrary to an ASBO. While I agree that the courts need to enforce their rulings I can't help but feel it's pointless to have started this vendetta .

I understand that some people may not want to see someone naked, but this isn't the 1950s sexually oppressed America. Some people say "oh but think of the children!" to which I would say "So what?". As long as it's not sexualised, seeing someone naked isn't depriving a child of their innocence, neither is is alarming.

You see women in bikinis on the beach which to be honest is only a small step away from total nudity, yet that is perfectly acceptable. The same goes for men with obese stomachs overflowing their speedos. That's just as off putting as seeing a random guy naked, but you know, I just get on with my life.

I understand some people may not like to see it, but should it really be criminalised? Can't people just ignore it?

I'd not what to impose that on anyone tbh. I have no desire to walk around naked and tbh I don't really want to see anyone naked either, but I don't think it should be criminalised. It's not hurting anyone.

I think we should ignore him, he clearly will not change and it isn't sinister, yet he does apparently cause alarm when passing through towns particularly, children in parks and so forth.

It is a difficult problem, and jailing him isn't a solution, but I think he could try to compromise a little.

So what if children are in parks. Surely they've seen their parents naked at some point?

If we don't criminalise this sort of behaviour we'd have some sort of paedo-geddon on our hands!

Serious answer.

It's a shame a large slice of the population cannot distinguish nudity and sexual deviancy.

You know what happens when a child sees a naked man or woman? Nothing, they ask a couple of questions and move on with their lives. It's pathetic that parents pass on their own irrational insecurities, paranoia or indoctrinated views that the naked form is somehow sinful or shameful.

Ugh, people.

This, absolutely.

I don't disagree with you, just that to some other people it is offensive or can cause distress and alarm. It's entirely subjective and dependent on your conditioning to social norms and values.

If he had refused to wear clothes (as per BBC article), then I think this is a case for sectioning under the mental health act rather than prison.

I didn't realise my spiderman jimmy jams were keeping me sane...

Presumably as children are also Humans they see themselves naked roughly once a day.

You'd be surprised how many kids haven't seen there parents naked. Quite a number of friends I've spoken to about this sort of thing look at me in an almost state of horror when I say I've seen my parents naked.

The human body = BAD, SINFUL, SHAME, DIRTY

Personally, I think that's a bad thing. It's important to have an understanding of what people look like for a biological standpoint if nothing else.

If I had my way the entire world would be naked, there's nowt to be ashamed of in the human form and certainly nothing wrong with a bit more butt on display.... ahhh happy days :)

Think the bloke's a bit tragic to be honest. Saw a documentary about him - well mostly about how much his family have suffered for his 'cause'. Being a totally non-existant father/husband, etc. I mean if you want to put some great personal cause above your family, fair enough, but try to at least think of a worthy cause first. Being able to walk around naked is a crap cause.

There aint no such thing as ugly n fat is what it is ... excess of this n that but certainly nothing that can be used to pass judgement on anyone .....
