Naked Rambler Jailed

But do you think because you don't ascribe to it that nobody should be able to? remember the ASBO was based upon the nakedness in the first place so you can't just pass it off as him getting in trouble for breaking an ASBO like it's not related.

I don't think he should have got the ASBO no, but breaking it was stupid as the punishments are severe.

That is but one reaction that could come from it, but if you can't see the potential then oh well.

What about personal freedom not to see it in a public place?

I thought you were to balance freedoms, not pick one you like the sound of most and stand on it.

Freedoms should be a hierarchy. Everyone gets to do as they please, until the point that you're removing another persons freedom. Your freedom to live should be #1, your freedom to be offended should pretty much be last on the list. You need to figure out in which order you value your freedoms and remember that it'll be enforced on you too.

That's not a freedom, that's a restriction.

I have the right to move in public space without offence, I find naked people offensive. Example.

That isn't a restriction, that is a freedom, unfortunately with most freedoms comes a corresponding obligation. One persons freedom is not so absolute that it can override another persons freedom.

Should I have the power (as a citizen) to restrict what people do in a public place if no harm is caused?

Not as a citizen no, and I can't accept it is a completely harmless activity.

I find it more interesting that Burnsey disagrees with some parts of the law, I disagree with a great deal of freedom limiting laws that have no direct impact on others, laws most seem completely indoctrinated into, but it is nice to see everyone has a limit.

The other thing to note is that I know the officers who went to court to get the ASBO for this chap and there was a conversation where I mentioned that I didn't agree with it. Not that is made or should have made any difference of course.

I have the right to move in public space without offence, I find naked people offensive. Example.

Why should anyone care what you or anyone else is offended by? why would people getting themselves all riled up to be offended by something that doesn't hurt them be a platform from which to legislate the lives of others?

I rather guess he's playing devils advocate, because obviously that's rife for abuse such as "your face offends me", not that I know what he looks like.

I'm interested, if he's being genuine.

Ni but daft because he knows it's illegal and kept doing it anyway.
Sure it's daft he knew he'd probably get caught but he probably doesn't care that he did because he's doing it to make a point as well as doing it because he wants to.

The classic harm / offence debate once more.

It goes without saying that one man's harm is another man's offence. Then you will see that criminality is, behind all smokescreens, a moral issue.

In a world where hundreds of people die every minute from starvation, war, disease etc I think this guy cherry picked the right cause to go to jail for.

Surely in a world with those problems some guy wanting to go for a walk with his tackle out shouldn't be high the target list of legislation?
