4k hot hatch... where would your money go?

Thanks for your detailed and thorough analysis. The motoring press were obviously wrong about the Focus' handling too seeing as it was widely acknowledged and praised as the best handling car of that segment in that period of time.

ST170 has a great chassis and suspension setup, the only thing that lets it down is the engine. Yes I have driven one.

This is very accurate.

herpderp appears as if from no where in a wave of dishonest opinion, if you've driven a facelift CTS and an ST170 you would know that the facelift CTS is the better car by a long shot, the ST170 is absolutely pants but you only ever post derp and everyone knows this so its all good.

Funny, I drove both and disliked both, but at least the Focus had some good points, the CTS didn't and you have been made to look a fool once again. Reevaluate your life choices.

Yeah driven a few I used to work for a Toyota main dealer, from what I remember the Celica handled a lot better than the Pre-Facelift Corolla, it felt much lower to the ground and had a more driver focussed driving position but I owned a facelift Corolla T-Sport for over two years and thought the handling was spot on and the improvements over the pre-facelift were very noticeable I never had a problem with it, just needed firming up a bit as do most warm hatches/Saloons/Coupes etc, I think the EP3 was better but not by as much as people make out. I've already had a Corolla though so if I was to get a VVTL-I motor again it would have to be a Celica or a Compressor

Whats wrong with any of that post other than you actually went out of your way to dig it up and post it, its no different to anything I've said before other than I would have a standard one again as I miss mine that much, is it ok with you if I change my mind ever so slightly and consider the same car if a nice one came up and I was looking?

"Re-evaluate my life choices" that's awesome talk about going to the extreme, I suppose anyone who's ever bought an FL-CTS needs to do the same, the only foolish people here are the people who bang on about something they know nothing about and take it as far as they can, its cringe worthy reading your posts they are epically bad

"Thanks for your detailed and thorough analysis." You're welcome Janesy B, and thank you for your credible ownership experiences I truly value your extensive first hand experience of all things motors

Had one sat on my drive for a year so yeah I do know about them and can offer a better opinion than "Its pants, my mate owned one for two years, it was pants Pants, pants and more pants".

I know, everyone is clueless, the motoring press are clueless, Relentless knows everything about a car so good he sold it and wouldn't buy another.

I've owned an EP3, LCR and a DC2.

Out of those I would highly recommend a DC2. It was the best car to drive by a mile. If you bought a nice one and looked after it you probably wouldn't lose much money on it.

I found the LCR quite dull in comparison, even after a remap. It was still a good car, very good on the motorway, smooth and fast. Just nowhere near as composed or as fun as the DC2 on B roads.

The EP3 was somewhere in between.

The LCR was by far the most comfortable and practical. 5 doors, big boot, climate control etc. But after owning it a few weeks I never took it out to drive just for the sake of it. Whereas the other two I would regularly go out for a blast.

Thats the thing which worries me, I know the LCR will be rapid but I also know it's not gonna be worlds apart from my MK4 GTI was... The Civic was something else to drive in comparison, just the way it felt.

I am still tempted with a Fiesta ST, 57 plate could be snapped up for 4k deal price after haggling in good nick on 55ish thousand miles... shame about the lack of power but I've driven a couple of slightly messed with ones and they drive pretty well, if anything more predictable than my EP3 was which is good considering my skills.

But, 200BHP would be nice and it's too much of a stretch to mess with one to that extent and make it not very town friendly :)

I have owned an ST and an EP3.
The latter is by far and away the better car. Even if my ST was specced much higher than the civic

Handling and performance terms, they are worlds apart.

EP3's are fun, had one as a company pool car, dull with the traction control on and takes a bit of mastering to get power down coming out of corners with it off, still thats half the fun i guess

What company do you work for. An ep3 as a pool car sounds ideal.
They very much don't have traction control.

They also have absolutely no issue getting the power down round corners.
