Got a 7770 HD and still some gaming problems!

So my old computer was:

4170 FX CPU @ 4.2ghz
6670 HD graphics card
500w Cooler Master
8 GB Ram

Gaming on this was slow, low settings where possible @ 40fps with 1080 x 1024 but graphically intensive games such as Crysis where unplayeable so I got a 7770 HD and it has improved vastly, but I'm wondering if I'm getting the most out of PC, especially the CPU.

I know the 4170 isn't amazing, but it should keep up and pair well with the 7770 I've heard. I'm getting 45-60fps playing at 1920 x 1080 on normal graphics on games like Metro: Last Light which is cool and 25-35fps playing on High which isn't ideal.

I don't have any other details about the PC right now. I bought this (like an idiot, I know) a while ago and upgraded the GPU and PSU to the above: DO NOT POST LINKS LIKE THAT ON HERE, PLEASE READ THE FAQ REGARDING COMPETITORS!

Thanks for your help!

p.s. I've updated drivers, overclocked CPU to 4.5ghz, my temps are running fine but CPU usage is erratic, going from 15% to 70% and then 50% to 90% and stuff.

Any suggestions and I will reply when I'm at my PC. Thanks!

AFAIK the metro games eat up every graphics card known to man so that fps seems very reasonable. I don't think the cpu should bottleneck at all, its just that game requires a lot of gpu power. The 7770 is a great budget card but its not going to be able to play all games at full settings.

Okay can anyone else confirm this? Thanks!

Also does it make it worse than I'm playing on a 32" tv?

Size doesn't matter, resolution does. If it is 1080p, playing on 1280x720 will still look quite good, thats how I play on my 5770 when I am playing on the TV.

So given my specs, running any game at full res on high settings and getting 50fps+ shouldn't be expected? The more answers the better I'll feel that my PC isn't broke somehow.

Thanks!

Ok thanks for the advice on that :)

Would you recommend I upgrade CPU to an i3/i5 to help with gaming as I'm still a bit paranoid the 4170 is terrible or will I not see that big of a difference?

Cheers.

The 4170 will be fine, it is a decent quad core, and will play games for a while :).
If you want a very big increase in FPS then you will need to upgrade your GPU again.

also is your current mobo accept crossfire?
it could improve a little but if you make crosfire
ps: my current graphics card does 20-50 in low resolution, so your gpu isn't bad as you think

Holy crap guys listen to this:

I reformatted my computer and UNDERCLOCKED the CPU to 3.8GHZ and kept everything else the same, and I'm getting 60-70 FPS consistantly on Very High at full res on Metro!

I'm in heaven!

I'm also getting incredibly good temps @ 30c for my CPU but 70c from my graphics card.

I dont believe you are getting 60-70 fps on very high settings with AA and other crap enabled on 7770.
