**** The Official Superman - Man Of Steel Discussion Thread ****

That is insane.

I have just got back from it.

Its good. Not fantastic.

The bits it does well is the start and the finding out who he is. Then They just went silly with it, I get that the action needed to be BIG, and it was, but some of it is just ludicrous.

All in all, 7.5/10 Would watch again.

Also may I suggest that ChocolateStarfishRammer, you had you mind made up that you were going to love this before seeing it, and then spent a long time on what was a fantastic post debunking everyone else for having an opinion? My best friend is a DC fan boi as well ;)

^ After seeing your youtube video a few weeks ago with your reaction to the trailer, I have no doubts you have seen this film 8 times. :p

Just got back from seeing it myself, I found it very entertaining and the 2 hrs+ just seemed to fly by. A solid 7.5/10 from me.

No where near actually. I did this with Iron Man 3 and was massively disappointed, and after the last pitiful Superman film I really went into it expecting another Green Lantern film. So was happily surprised by how good it was.

Also, the whole post was reviews taken from elsewhere as said.. but they do reflect my own thoughts.

Most certainly not a DC fan boy either!! :)

For example, how come the atmosphere in Zod's ship caused such an adverse reaction to Superman, but going out into the vacuum of space is ok?
I loved the touch when he was fighting the southern hemisphere machine, and again, his sensitive bronchial airways were irritated by the smoke coming off, enough that a good 40 a day cough was audible over the (extremely loud) sound effects - but sticking your head in a flaming rocket engine, no problem!

I might be barking up the wrong tree, but they said the conditions on Krypton were much harsher than Earth. That was stated by the Dadogram and by Zod. They said that he had to adapt, it would have to run its course.

I ponder if the particulates being mentioned, those of Krypton, those being created and pumped into Earth's atmosphere, a process that wasn't completed, were actually Kryptonite?

So in small doses they affect his powers and his abilities and his strength. I also ponder if in a sequel movie, some supervillian (Lex) might spend his time working to find a cure to the problem of supercop flying around, and realise the link, gather the particles already in the atmosphere, concentrate them, making a rock or similar of Kryptonite, and then use it against Superman.

That why I think he coughed, it affected it, but we haven't been told what it was yet. Zod and chums brought up with it, therefore not effected, and also didn't exhibit superpowers on their homeworld.

Watched it tonight.

In some ways they went a more realistic route with people knowing things he's done out of the ordinary in the past, if you could do things like that someone, somewhere is going to have know about it.

HERE BE SPOILERZ!

Overall though it would have been more interesting to see a pitched battle with the American forces getting completely obliterated, I literally thought we were going to see Tanks get chucked around (ala 2003 Hulk) but nothing like that materialised. Seen a couple of planes and 2 helicopters get torn apart but that was really about it. Disappointing as the trailers sort of made out like there was going to be some kind of encounter along those lines and it never happened.

Was interesting to see how the Kryptonians reacted to Cannon fire from the A10, getting knocked on their arses and the Missile knocked out Faora, but realistically I was surprised to see them having any real kind of reaction to them, expected them more to just stand as if a fly had bounced off them. I suppose they weren't long there and as seen later their powers were still coming through so probably would have been a different story later in the movie.

What was the story with that big goon that was with Faoro, to me it almost seemed to be a more serious version of "Non" from Superman 2 but I don't think a name is ever mentioned nor do you really se his face because of the mask, did seem like a nod in that direction though.

The screaming Superman got a bit old, he done it about 3 or more times during the course of the movie, once I can understand but hearing it a few times got tedious.

Michael Shannon's voice serious grinded at times, can't put my finger on it but he sounds as if he has some sort of speech impediment, once I started noticing it I couldn't stop.

Pa Kent's death was ****ing dumb, end of. Oh there's a twister coming Clark, tell you what I'll toddle along to get the dog just to stop you running a bit faster than normal and getting the dog as obviously everyones looking at you and not the big **** off Twister incoming that's slinging Cars in the air.

Zod running up the side of the building on all fours like a dog looked retarded.

Overall it was good but at the same time I think it was screaming out for a scene where the US is trying to intervene en mass and failing miserably. Just seemed to lack a scene where the kryptonian dominance over the best Humanity has to offer is obvious but as I said, it never materialised. (and before anyone says "superman is the best humanity has to offer" im obviously referring to Human made weapons)

SPOILERZ END!

To be fair why would you come into the thread now if you hadn't even seen the film? The only people who are coming into the thread are the people who have watched it and are giving their review.

Not true :p

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm still curious to hear spoiler free opinions.
I'm probably not the only one.

Not sure how much there is to spoil tbh though... I mean, Clark grows up, becomes superman, takes on the bad guys, destroys half a city in the process, bad guys die and Clark/Supe's the man, right?

I give it 8/10. The best superhero film to date and it portrayed the immense strength and speed they possessed extremely well. It's set up nicely for the sequel too which will hopefully be even better.

Aye or fools who somehow want people to talk about a film they've just seen without actually talking about the film they've just seen.

It's been out 10 days, there is nothing hidden regarding this film anymore.
...and in other news in The Shawshank Redemption, he escapes at the end.

Pretty ignorant viewpoint tbh

People who have seen the film can discuss the film just as easily with spoiler tags, and those who haven't seen the film can get an opinion or idea of if the film is worth seeing.

Also, I'm not sure the defence that "it's been out 10 days" holds any weight at all. Given how busy people are it may be years before someone gets around to watching it properly. I'm not saying to never reveal an ending or plot point, but I'd consider a film that hasn't come out on disc to be pretty new.

I haven't seen a load of films that I will never bother with, because I've stumbled across a spoiler in a random thread or YouTube comment. Some new, some really old. It's outright annoying, wether it's Man of Steel or The Sixth Sense.

So don't read the thread if you don't want to know things about the film.
You can't have stumbled on a thread entitled man of steel and serious expect that people are going to discuss all aspects of the movie within spoiler tags.
Where does it stop?
Do we fail to name actors in case you want the surprise of their inclusion, do we spoiler who they play?
Do we spoiler if they acted well, or if it seemed well written so you can decide for yourself?

If my viewpoint is ignorant, tell me where you draw your spoiler tag line?
Hidden reveals?
Plot twists?
Minor plot inclusions?
Acting abilities?
Who plays who?
Potential sequel discussion?
Interpretation of actions in film?
Plot holes in the film?

No, my post 446, I want to know if it needs spoilering or not, on page 15 of this thread.
As it in direct response to postulations over the previous several pages which were not spoilered.
As yet no one has replied to it, or has related to it, and the suggestion I made, which might well be a major potential plot point in a forthcoming sequel, but hasn't been alluded to at all in the first film.

So you answer me, as I am not trying to take the *&^%.
