Hi,

I'm about to purchase the following components and just wanted to check that everything would work together and that it will be capable of running intensive games.

EVGA GeForce GTX 680 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM
Seasonic X-Series 850w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
Corsair Vengeance RED 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz
Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Corsair Force GT 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD
OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Cooler Master HAF X Gaming Tower Case - Black
Benq XL2420T 24" TRUE 120Hz 3D Vision 2.0 Widescreen LED Monitor

Will be running at 1920x1080 screen resolution and apparently there wouldn't be much point in going for a 780 as it only really performs better at higher resolutions.
I already have the OS.

Thanks.

That looks very good.

Only 1 thing worries me, the RAM and cooling..

That RAM is high profile so you won't be able to use big air coolers as they will collide with the RAM's big heatainks. You still have the option of a closed loop cooler like a h80, h100..

What were you thoughts about cooling?

Also the power supply is pretty over the top. A 600-650w would be still more than enough. Stick with seasonic or a seasonic oem though. :)

Also also, I would get a different SSD. An Intel, plextor, Toshiba, Samsung would be my choice.

Doomed has covered most of the points worth making to be honest.

A 770 is a "Super Duper" 680 so would be a better choice to be honest. If you gave us a budget we would have an easier time balancing things out. Maybe use THIS to post the basket you are planning on buying.

If you wanted the option of using dual GPUs at some point I could suggest.....

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 WindForce 3x OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (GV-N770OC-2GD) £329.99
1 x BenQ XL2411T 24" TRUE 144Hz 3D Vision 2.0 Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red £249.95
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail with FREE Grid 2 PC Game £194.99
1 x Plextor M5S 256GB Solid State Drive - (PX-256M5S) £139.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-D3H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £131.99
1 x BitFenix Shinobi XL Full Tower Gaming Windowed Case - Black £114.95
1 x XFX 850W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply £101.99
1 x Avexir Core Blue Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U24001004G-2CI) - Blue Light £67.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £67.99
1 x OcUK 20x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £11.99
Total : £1,444.87 (includes shipping : £27.55).

Then you just need to pick a cooler out. Either the H100i/Antec 1220 would fit just fine in the Shinobi XL if you want the "Watercooled look" but you can change the case or use a different cooler. It's your build after all

Were you planning on overclocking the CPU at all? If not then the stock cooler should be fine and you can use whatever RAM you want.

That's a lot of poppy going on just the panel fella. I can see you like the black and red look. How about..............

1 x BitFenix Mesh Stripes for Shinobi XL Tower Case - Red £8.99
Total : £1,559.80 (includes shipping : £27.55).

You won't need 16GB for gaming. This kit is 1600Mhz but it is LED red and has some decent OC potential. SP120 fans are to upgrade the H100 fans, you get red rings to customise them too

A few things wrong,

• The SSD is a bit old and there are faster drives now on the market
• 16GB of RAM is OTT
• A modular PSU will help with cable management.

• 2400Mhz RAM, get the speed at which you want the RAM to run at, don't rely on overclocking;)
• A red+black themed board with 16 power phases
• Quicker SSD
• Modular PSU.

And there's nearly £200 left over to splash elsewhere::)

I toyed with using either that more expensive Geil kit or the Teamgroup but they are both tall kits (not a major issue as we both used a CLC). Although as the refurb'd CLC only has a 3 month warranty with OCuk, I thought it best to use something shorter to keep options open for a replacement. Even that Geil kit has OC potential as does Samsung Green but yes ideally you should buy the speed you want. I just think the Avexir looks better and is cheaper, with reviews showing it can quite possibly surpass 2000Mhz it's not a bad kit at all for the price.

Yes you do now you swapped to the same screen as me after looking over my spec ;)

It's a good decent spec and nice to see another case alternative. I'm sure he is well on track to balance something out now, as you say there is cash left over to tweak it as he sees fit :)

Should never rely on overclocking;) and i've only seen one review of the 1600Mhz kit at Vortez, you should know that not all silicon overclocks the same.

Its the best spec here :p

I'm not relying on it lol It was picked because it was fairly short and kept with the styling, I just mentioned it has potential as do many other kits....I never guaranteed a speed ;) The Corsair Vengeance Pro kits look AMAZING on these Gigabyte mobos but £80 for 2133Mhz seemed a bit much to me to keep the styling.

Your spec originally was close to £1600 with the Panel the OP used. You just couldn't be bothered to re-tweak the rest of the spec after changing the panel lol

We should mention that the full priced H100i and the Antec 1220 have LEDs you can set the colour to (red) if he likes the idea of a watercooled look. I really look forward to seeing his next basket :)

?

My spec was actually cheaper than it currently is as I had used the CM Scout II case.

I changed cases to one which had a window to show off the red+black.

Also there is nothing to "re-tweak" as you put it, its fine as it is. lol

Dude your original basket was £1500 odd, you used the £430 BenQ Panel which I think is a waste of cash (3D isn't worth getting excited over). You obviously agree as you changed it, the money "saved" can be used to up the SSD and storage capacity or upgrade the coolers fans (like I did from the get go) etc etc....that would be re-tweaking it ;)

Agree with the above, you're better off with a bigger SSD than spending so much on a screen (unless you're going for a 27" screen or something like).
